WoW just went free to play until level 20

Its basically the same thing as there Trial accounts.. They just removed the time limit.
 
Ha ha I just deleted WoW off my hard drive. Nephews are definitely going to be bugging me to play again.

Cold day in _ _ _ _ though.

Then again, there's been so many horror stories of WoW sucking the life out of people.
 
Same limitations apply, it's basically just a removal of the 10 days or whatever it was duration.
 
They also made BC part of the stock game. So if you buy vanilla wow it also includes BC.
 
So if i already have an account with level 80+'s on it, can i start a new character and level it up to 20 without reactivating my account? Or does it have to be a new account with no existing characters above 20?

If you've never played it you honestly should. You might get sucked in for awhile but you will eventually pop back out. It's not the same as it was, but it's A LOT easier for casual players to always be in the action.
 
As a guy who has played on and off since it first came out, I can finally say the game is dying and I honestly think the final nail will be Diablo 3.
 
Well, no matter what you think of the game, you have to admit it has had a very good run. Probably far better than even Blizzard predicted.

It sucks the life out of people because it's fucking fun, but yet a grind at the same time. Because of this, you lose track of the time, and before you know it, you've been playing all night. Much like a casino.

Definitely give it a shot, but you need to have self control and set time limits, or you'll play all day. I dislike the game now, because after about 6 years of playing it, I'm burned out (I've been it since release, stopped a few months ago). But that's not to say I didn't have a blast along the way. I can confidently say with all the time I had invested in the game, it was no doubt my favorite game of all time.
 
good idea IMO.

Blizzard know they will lose a bunch of subscribers to SW:TOR, this way they will get new people in, hooked and subbed :)

personally, i cant wait for the new lotro expansion :D

I'm sure even after its "death" as some people call it they will still have a couple million subs. A lot less than now, but a ton more than almost any other MMO.
 
It is taking forever to download the game. I hope I get a good day or two of gameplay out of the trial.
 
how gimped is the trial? i'm assuming you can't roll around in gold or have twink weapons.

Your not allowed to whisper anyone not on your friends list
you cant use general, trade, or defense channels
Auction House is off limits
Yell is off limits

You only way to talk is to use /say

Also I belive being in a guild is also off limits but I could be wrong.

What I do know is I have canceled my wow account and deleted my 85 Paladin and 85 hunter both in full T11+off peice raid gear.

I quit pretty much when cata came out. Just don't have the desire to play. I quit for awhile before cata, than bought the game and quit like a week later. Waste of 40 bucks imo.

This. Hardly "free to play". If you are even slightly easily addicted to MMO's those 20 levels are like your first dose of whatever drug to get hooked.

Still though at least the trial key bullshit is gone. But did they remove the chat restrictions? I wonder.
 
Free to play til level 20, but you don't have access to Cataclysm races or death knights. Meh.

I get quitting the game, but why would you delete your charecters? For the life of me I can't think of a good reason to do so.
 
I tend to view it as being overly dramatic, but sometimes it takes "extreme" measures to quit for good. Despite this, people who've done this would get their characters restored so they can come back. :D

For a lot of addicts that is what is needed to help be done with the addiction..

Just think if you were addicted to coccaine and wanted to get off the addiction but you left your left over stash sitting around the house..

Hope you don't really think Diablo 3 will end WoW's reign. They aren't even in the same class of games. I believe most players interested in D3 will get it but keep their WoW sub ongoing. Will some players completely quit because of D3--yes but not enough to hurt their bottom lines. Just like some will quit for SW:TOR, the next billed "WoW Killer" that won't meet the hype. Sadly as much as I like BioWare's games, EA seems to give very little ongoing support to MMOs or games that don't continue to be sucessful. Maybe their tune will change since it's one of the most well known IP though but what EA did with Warhammer Online doesn't give me too much faith.

You can't use the auction house, you cant trade, you cant group with anybody past level 20, and you cant cap levels. At best you could do is be gimp level 20 bg player. Even then the best you could do is deadmines blues. People in BOA stuff will wreck people in that gear.

Its more than likely to get people to try the game instead of RIFT. They lost ~1 million subscribers the past few months from that and just sheer bordum from the lack of fun content. Maybe they will realize that rehashing something and calling it "hard mode" isn't cutting it anymore.

I seriously doubt that. MMOs are a different type of game. People will play both.

There is a huge community of level 60 twinks who never upgraded to bc so they could roflstomp regular bgs instead of playing against other twinks in non-xp battlegrounds. They are PISSED right now lol.

You cant use /yell or talk in any channel but /say. I think they will stick with hacking accounts and using toons on those accounts to spam.
 
More proof that WoW is like a drug, Blizzard has announced that the game is now free...until you reach level 20. It's that free sample that gets you hooked, after that, you have to pay to play like all the other addicts. ;) Thanks to sharp-eyed [H] forum member Archer75 for the heads up!

Wow is like a drug. Just today I stabbed some guy and stole his shoes so I could play for another month. I'm having a hard time finding employment because they see my click finger twitching and know that I'm an addict. I've only been playing for 4 weeks and I went from looking like Brad Pitt to looking like the love child of Gary Busey and Steve Busheme. Ive robbed 7-11s for their game cards and wow themed mnt dew flavors.

They really need to up the level cap of trials. Level 20 can be gotten in an hour, and you only get a brief 5 levels of using the random dungeon finder. You can't do anything interesting before level 20, so there's nothing to get you hooked. Why not 40? Or 60? Or better yet, why not a trial island like what SoE uses. You get a custom island for the trial that lets you explore all the elements of gameplay you can expect later on, so instead of collecting moldy cheese and boar intestines for 20 levels why not as some scripted events and some story fluff.

Can't they just use the XP Eliminator to stay at 60?

And guys, Star Wars isn't all that 'cool' anymore, I doubt more than 0,1% of WoW playerbase gives a shit about SW:TOR, Bioware or not.

I think your right, and I think Blizzard knows this. Thats why there taking so damn long on Diablo 3 :p
