z5300e. i just realized that my sub functions fully with only the front speaker wires plugged into the onboard sound.
 
That's pretty good, wireless sound AND power!
 
Yes, but the satellites are not only amplified at the subwoofer-mounted amplifier. There is an internal crossover circuit which passes low-frequency components of the audio input signal to the subwoofer. The subwoofer is not considered a discrete output device in this case because it's merely acting as an extension of the satellites' capabilities. It's merely doing the low-frequency work for those satellites.
