I think I've got a fedex delivery man that's playing hookie.

I had a tracking number for a package from newegg, and apparently there was a delivery attempt a bit more than an hour ago. I've been home all day, and a UPS package was delivered as well. There was even another person in the home.

I could accept that maybe neither of us heard the doorbell, but here's the shocker.

No notice was left either. Since there was a bit of snow last night (about 4-5") I'm thinking that the delivery person saw the unplowed roads in my neighborhood and said screw it.

I'm thinking your right.

4-5' of snow, what would you do???

Nor rain, nor... oh wait that's the postmaster... ;)

edit: they obviously need HP technology to overcome this. I mean sheesh didn't they allow the USPS to overcome giant robots?

It really doesn't matter how much snow there was in my sub.... the fedex guy avoided my home! Makes me

<hulk voice>
I want that DVD drive now!!
</hulk voice>

That happend to me too, while i was waiting for my slk-900a from newgg. The fedex wouldnt even try, while the UPS guy made it up my short, but insanely steep hill. They just dont try. i finally got it yesterday after it arrived in seattle on sunday (ordered friday two weeks ago).

Christmas eve the fedex guy came to my house and either didn't knock or knocked really lightly, left a notice on the door, and ran back to his van. I was never more than 20 feet from the door either and didn't notice. Maybe it's cat and mouse and we're meant to tackle them on their way to the van?

Here's something you can do to freak out a delivery guy. Have a razor in your pocket when they show up and just start opening the packages. Say you're verifying that the goods are undamaged. That will send them into a shit fit because it is against their policies for the drivers to look inside the package, but it's your front porch, so you know what they can do with their policies.

I don't know if you're kidding, but 40/hr is manager salary. At 40/hr for 40 hours a week 50 weeks of the year that's $80,000. Fedex would go bankrupt... Even if they only paid guys with 5 years of service.

" "I never said ', I said " "

"you implied it."

WTF, you guys are bizarre. All he was saying is the guy saw the snow and left. Strange thread anyway, I'm outta here.

They're all shady. Plus they give no guarantee based on weather conditions. So, snow? overnight shipping? Don't think so....they will use any excuse possible not to get you the package on time and then charge your full price. Suxors.

Wouldn't surprise me, Fedex contracts out there routes, the drivers own there own vehicle, or drive the vehicle for some other private owner... so they can easily get away with saying they tried to deliver it etc. They can just skip by everything and go home early and lose no pay or anything.

Whereas at UPS, the company owns the vehicles, and are in charge of the routes, etc... so "hookie" is less likely to occur... as the drivers are on the clock.

UPS Garuntees shipping. If your package isn't there within 6 days (for ground), 3 days (for 3rd day select), 2 days (for 2nd day air), or 1 day for next day air, (all these depend on when the package is actually entered into the system btw...), then the shipper can file a claim at UPS and get a refund.

Of course, you'll never see any of this from any major company, cause they are going to pocket the cash. Never says on there website that they garuntee the shipping in x amount of days, only when the package is shipped out at the most... and theyll blame UPS or Fedex for anything ;)

Also, alot of companies like say.. Gateway or Amazon have a contract with UPS, so they basically get delivered when they get delivered... (usually on time), but if it's not there on time, so what? Doesn't violate Gateway/Amazon contract.. they are saving tons with the shipping contract anyways. So it doesn't neccessarily matter... same with most other companies, and same with Fedex and companies they are contracted to ship for.

UPS/Fedex only cares about these companies, they could give a shit less about Joe Shmoe shipping something to his aunt 5 states away.

No mgr make 40/hr...beleave me I know :D

There are always business delays, hell one and a half inch of snow in texas stopped school for the whole district. And your talking about 4 inches there buddy! They actualy had a reason, and its a sucky job, you cant really force people 2 work in those cold condition (they have to have their window down 2 deliver and it must be freezing!) thats why there are labor unions.

WTF...Sorry to say you dont know jack about FED EX

well... the UPS guy made it to my house today, the USPS guy made it to my house today. I got my prescription, and I got my junk mail.... but no DVD drive. :(

It would be one thing if it said could not deliver due to weather. It's quite another to tell me he was there and I couldn't hear him. It's worse yet to say he was there and not leave the delivery notice.

Just go down to your local Fed-ex place and pick it up yourself, give them the tracking # and they'll turn it over.

the world needs less HP technology if anything - their consumer PC & printer division are a bunch of pilfering butt-pirates. back to the topic: FedEx pwns... once in a blue moon they are late, and even so, I'm still happy when I open the package & find the contents weren't breakdanced all the way to my doorstep - as opposed to the shenannigans of another sector of unscrupulous couriers  (who shall remain namless.)

Yeah I'm fucking pissed off at fedex too. My part sat in a sort facility here in kansas city all fucking day yesterday. It arrived wednesday night. The estimated delivery date was yesterday. Not a single scan yesterday. Then this morning it said it departed the scan facility but I haven't gotten it yet and that's the last fucking thing on the page. They don't even fucking deliver on saturday, do they? I'm going back up to school on sunday so I'm goddamn pissed off. There isn't even any snow or anything around here. I even saw a fucking fedex truck drive by yesterday. God damn.

when i ordered my laptop from dell...I nor my grandparents were home to receive it. Here is the kicker...they left it on my doorstep.

1600dollars....sitting on my doorstep. What if my grandparents didn't arrive home when they did...

I think it was UPS.

They still make good money regardless. My brother-in-law makes over $50k/year just doing residential routes and he's only been driving for about 2 years. This is in NC, where the cost-of-living is relatively low. I can imagine they make more in bigger metro areas.

I usually have individual parts shipped to my work. If it's a big order I'll still send it to my house so I don't piss anyone off. We have a dedicated shipping person and we have the same drivers from UPS and FedEx deliver & pickup every day, so it always gets there on time, if not early.

Funny how I always end up having to go pick up something that was $10 because I wasn't home to sign for it but when they shipped my laptop to me ($1500) it was "left with a neighbor"...WTF?

I wouldn't say UPS is all that peachy either, or maybe it's just here in Ann Arbor. I had UPS deliver my new $200 cell phone. I heard a knock on my door the day it was to be delivered, so I walked over and opened the front door. I opened the door just in time to see the delivery guy drop the package from waist height to the ground at my door. Dumbass. I should have opened the package right there in front of him, but I didn't. Needless to say, I had to have a replacement shipped in, because the phone was damaged already.

OT: Speaking of UPS guys, how did the guy in King of Queens get a hot wife like that?

I don't have too many problems with my deliveries...I am "friends" you can say with the delivery guy so I don't got problems...

It really depends on the guy who is driving I would say. The UPS guy in our small town is Dave, everyone knows him, so if you ever got a problem you'll be sure to see him, and always have a friendly conversation, I don't know the fedex man but the nearest fedex location is over 30 minute drive through the country, and thats just a nuisance.

Anybody know if I can go pick up a fedex package on saturday? Fuck that pisses me off.

I live in kansas city, i always have to go pick up my Fedex Packages... it's alot easier that way anyways. There's a major hub out by the i-70 speedway, and there's a center out by banister... i always goto the one by banister.

Actually... i heard there drivers do make quite a bit of money, but they are in charge of maintenance, gas, etc. for there truck. Plus.. long hours, cause they gotta deliver all there packages. All in all, i heard they clear about 40 grand a year on average.

I work at UPS and make 10.50$ an hour inside the hub... plus full health and dental insurance... plus 3000$ a year tuition reimbursement. (I'm a college student, so I think it's a pretty damn good college job)... Most of the drivers there make 20-25$ an hour no prob. UPS is a union company (whereas fedex is not), so... if you've been there a helluva long time, you're gonna make alot of money. (i started out at 8.50$ and was up to 10.50$ in a year)

I work with a full time employee of UPS that works inside a hub, and he cleared 40,000$ this year. He's 24, two kids, no college education, beats the hell out being a teacher.

I work with another guy that takes advantage of double shifting and getting all the overtime he can... he cleared 100,000$ this year. (i shit you not, i saw his pay stub)

a live in an old mining city where a lot of people seem to favor UPS... now I know the reason. personally, I like an "open-door policy" system - but prolly' only because I haven't yet worked for a conglomerate where I couldn't give my boss a piece of my mind (or tell him/her to blow off) if I had a problem.

The FedEx guy around here is pretty good. The last couple of things I've recieved have actually gotten here a day early. I've had some reasonably large/pricey things left on my doorstep but the doorstep itself is relatively secluded and the neighborhood is pretty nice.

I know a guy who works for UPS, loading trucks. He loves the job; he gets full benefits, paid time off, and money to go to school and he usually works less than 20 hours per week. A pretty good deal if you ask me.

Wow, this has a lot to do with hardware.

Look, just wait until tomorrow or Monday. Is it that hard
