I decided to put DSR on in BF4 just to see if it really did anything. Boy did it!

BF4's built in resolution scaling works pretty well. Have you tried that?
 
yes, I was humorously saying I didn't know that. Explain, I'm interested.
 
too bad it doesn't work in sli, since most new games can't run that high with 1 970/980 at 60fps.
 
Newest version of Nvidia Experience set this up on Skyrim for me. It makes Skyrim look amazing. all Im using is the high rez textures. So far it hasnt done it to any other games.

I have 980's in SLI and DSR does work, it didn't work at launch when 900 series was launched for SLI, but it has been working for a long time now.

I keep DSR - Smoothness at 0%, I don't like it on, makes things look blurry.

DSR works with SLI if you hooked the cards up to a non G-Sync monitor.

DSR works with G-Sync monitor if you don't activate SLI

Activating SLI with a G-Sync monitor hooked up does make DSR disappear.

In none of the cases does state of G-Sync matter, only that the monitor has the module.

I had been using GeDoSaTo as an interim solution.
 
One of the best features :) Glad you love it. Try it on other games. LOVE IT for diablo 3.

Cannot wait to try out DSR with GTAV. If it's a damn good PC port, I might have to snag another 970 GTX again....for SLI (BOOO)

Honestly having no smoothing kinda misses the point of downscaling and wont look that good unless you use 4K DSR, which divides evenly with 1080P, and you need a lot of horse power to do that. And you may actually lose more details than with smoothing due to how crudely it simply cuts away the details that get too small for your target resolution. The gaussian filter (which the DSR smoothing is) helps to preserve them.
In odd resolutions between 4K and 1080P it will look very jaggy and noisy and you miss the free antialiasing properties too. Without smoothing you essentially brute force the picture down with Nearest Neighbor filter and that is the worst scaling method you can do unless you go with even numbers and its not very pretty with even numbers either.

But whatever floats your boat. I keep mine around 25%, which is about the same amount of blurring as the bilinear filtering that the driver-level GPU Scaling adds, the thing we used before DSR existed (not counting in gedosato which can offer some more fancy scaling algorithms). Its very mild and does not loose out the extra details higher rendering has digged out but the picture is still silky smooth.

Yeah mate welcome to... well, a long-ass time ago.

We've been raving about super-sampling for years; before Nvidia made it easy with DSR it was all about the SGSSAA and custom bits for DX9 games.

Of course, SGSSAA is still superior to DSR, but new games don't work with SGSSAA and DSR is a mighty fine improvement over all that post-process crap plaguing new games.
