WoW and wierd 6600gt problem....

just upgraded from a ti4200 to a 6600gt (agp) and now there's weird video tearing on the sign-in board and in-game the text is all garbled.

I have an old asus a7m266 mobo with 1 gig ram.

The wierd thing is, I've tried the card in two other systems and it works great. One was an ecs ks75a board and the other was with a biostar m-atx board.

I've tried everything on this danged system including:

reinstalling WoW
3 different sets of video drivers
switched out power supplies
switched out memory
fiddled with just about every bios configuration possible


It's starting to look like the mobo and the card just don't get along. Anything else I should try before swapping out boards and reinstalling winxp?

What's the AGP voltage setting at? And what is the aperature size?

Other than that, i would just try a couple different drivers.
 
id try a uninstall of all your old videocard drivers. im not sure what its called but seems to do the trick when installing a new videocard on top of an old one, even if they are made from the same vendor.

could be the AGP voltage, but I don't believe there's an option to change it in this particular bios.

aperature size has been tweaked from 64mb up to 256mb with no change.

driver switcheroo does nothing.
 
Have you looked into updating the mobo's bios? You are probably right when you said the mobo and video card don't get along so this is probably your best bet other than getting a new board. Good luck bud!
 
If I ever have probs like that I do a format. Seems to solve many probs.

hmm. the fact that the card works no problem with two other boards kind of narrows it down to a couple things. I would think it's a driver issue, but i've had experience with wierdness caused by the AGP voltage being set too low. you could always try using drivercleaner and then reinstalling. Won't hurt anything. After that, i would think comparing the bios settings between the boards that work and the board that doesn't would be the best place to start.
 
Visit drivercleaner.net. Its most likely a driver issue, nothing else would really make sense.
 
Not using driver cleaner before a new video card install can hinder the performance a great deal.
 
it's the old/crappy mobo. There's some jumpers to screw around with the voltage that fixed the tearing on the startup screen, but caused more problems when in game.

It's time to take the sucker out behind the barn and put it out of it's misery. It's for the best, as it's been nothing but a lemon since day one.
