can anyone confirm if world of warcraft will benefit from sli. dont say it should. i want to know if it defaults to 1 of the cards or does it work with both.

im allowed to say this cause i ha ve a 6800, now down to buisness

sli is pretty much a joke cause every softy needs a profile written to take advantage of sli lol

i my self game tfc wh ich is pretty much neglicted from the software makers themselfs ...but o well theres p lenty of small games out there that people play more then the cSuck game series

i knew they neede a profile but wnated to check on wow since thats what i wanted sli for.

No, not every program requires a profile. Some do need a profile to work correctly, but a lot of others will function just fine using the Global profile.

I'm allowed to say this... because I own an SLI setup.

From what I've seen about WoW, even a single 6800 should probably be able to run it well with everything maxed out.

I went to CES and played WoW on an Alienware SLI computer at the Nvidia booth and it looked and felt just the smooth as on my computer with a 6800 non SLI. I dont think there is much difference because WoW isn't a graphics card eater like Doom or HL2.

Alot of other games won't work with SLI, until Nvidia states which games will and will not work it's a crap shoot for $1000+.

I haven't run into a single game that won't play right on SLI. The default "Global" setting is Single-GPU (which is just set that way to cover Nvidia's rear), but that can be user switched to multi-GPU for the "Global" setting. There are some games that will show rendering errors when multi-GPU is on, there are also some more games that will run fine, but only really use one of the cards, and there are a lot more games that will run just fine in multi-GPU even without a profile.

And I just noticed you are running a dual CPU system. Most games dont' make any use of the second CPU, now do they?

I guess you don't play WoW then. Making your posts in this thread useless and off topic.

I guess you don't play Everquest 2. That is a game that crys for graphics processing power, but Nvidia can't even get Everquest 2 to run stable with 1 GPU let alone 2.
You make my point for me, game companies don't support multi-CPU, and a lot of games are CPU bound, what makes you think game companies are going to support SLI?
(My system is used mainly for software develoment, hence dual CPU works for me, and gaming once in a while. I plan an upgrade this year though, A64 :))

With the rig in my sig I play at 1280x1024 with 8xS AA and 16x AF and I'm cpu limited.

I can change resolutions up to 1600x1200 and I have the same framerate, I can lower the AA and AF levels and have the same framerate.

Save the cash from SLI and put it more towards a cpu with a lot of horses under the hood, it'll have a much more impact on your framrate than SLI. In WoW at least.

No I don't want to run a game with a monthly fee, while I have other new games to play right now. Once (maybe if) I get some of these other games knocked out, I might do WOW for a few months.
Have you emailed Nvidia directly about the WOW issue yet? If they start to feel a little pressure they might kick out the needed driver update a little sooner.

I was responding to the posts that took this thread off of the topic of WOW, and claimed that the SLI function only worked with the profiled games in the driver, and no others, which is completely not true, and needed to be corrected.
:D

SLI doesn't need for the game companies to support it. (It would of course be helpful) All it needs is for nvidia to identify the games that have issues, and adjust the drivers to take care of it.

You are being blinded by the SLI light. Game companies must code within Nvidia guidelines (see Chapter 7, http://developer.nvidia.com/object/gpu_programming_guide.html) or SLI cannot be used. From Tom's review, Microsoft's Flight Simulator 9 and Novalogic's Joint Operations for example both cause problems. As of the test date we were unable to find out the precise reasons why. NVIDIA only talks about frame buffering techniques used in games of this sort that are problematic for SLI. http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041123/sli-performance-05.html
How many games support SMP multi-CPU? Why so few, because it takes additional resources, time and money to support even though a lot of games are CPU bound. What makes you think game companies are going to support SLI for the handfull of systems out there. There are many more SMP boxes running than SLI and SMP support is scarce. If/When ATI developes their multi-render will the game companies support both technologies, will they be compatible? If OpenGL and/or D3D develope their own specification for multi-GPU will SLI be compatible? Nvidia hasn't release an updated list of games that do and don't support SLI. How often will Nvidia update the profiles? I have a feeling that high profile game companies will get support from Nvidia to support SLI, but the majority of venders out there are on the own.
