Would Video Card be Helpful

I am assembling a Microfly SFF with a Foxconn 6150K8MD MB, PCIE X16 Slot, AMD64 3800 CPU, and onboard DVI. Also am using a 19" Dell Ultrasharp monitor.

This computer will be used for word processing, spreadsheets, browsing the webb, and playing DVDs. Even with this limited agenda, I spend several hours a day (retired) keeping up with the latest on the various forums.

My question is with the above agenda and without games, will I gain anything at all by installing a video card with DVI instead of using the onboard video with DVI. I have not been able to find this answer so far.

Would appreciate your response to the above and any suggestions as to an appropriate video card if the consensus goes that way.

The quality of onboard DVI to an add in board DVI should be basically the same. As long as you are not doing any gaming I would not be concerned.
 
The DVD quality would be the area you would realize the greatest potential improvement with a stand alone card.

You can and probably should and will start off with the onboard and if you find your DVD's are not good enough upgrade.

BTW those are pretty lofty specs for a machine which is a web browser and word processor but hey more power to ya

I'm retired and 72. Just trying to catch up to some of this modern technology. Any card suggestions; i'd like to try one out!

Any newer generation Video card would be good, However ATI cards are known for better 2d image quality, something like a X1300 would be more than enough, it would have DVD enhancing features and be fairly cheap at about $60
 
Some video playback could benefit from Nvidia's Purevideo acceleration. It might be worth investing $30 in a 6200 card. Maybe. Generally, though, no, it won't be any different.
 
I looked up that motherboard and it's internal videocard, and they seem just fine for your purposes.

So unless you are going to be running a really large monitor that that card can't (like Dell 30") then there is no reason to spend money on anything else.
