If you could spend about $200 on a processor, would you spend it on this one or something else:

well personally, if i had that $200 it would be a video card upgrade for me. but, yes that processor is awesome and i would get that if i didnt need a new video card :D
 
I saw the 95w version on tigerdirect for $190 but it's OEM. If you're going to put an aftermarket heatsink on it anyways, get the 95w version.
 
Im already getting the gtx 460 1 gb video card, so its ok.

idk about the heatsink, im not familiar how a heatsink works at all and if i would need an aftermarket one.
 
if you plan on overclocking then your going to need a decent HS/F. overclocking makes more heat and draws more power... so it only makes sense that your going to need better cooling.
 
I had to upgrade my motherboard because when I first built my rig I was ignorant about TDP compatibility...my old mobo was designed for a 65W TDP and I was using a processor with a 125 W TDP. The bit of performance I had with the under-developed motherboard was doubled with the new mobo. The other part of my decisionI was thinking "I need to make sure I can put a Phenom II 1055T on it if I want to". The idea was to hang on to it and not upgrade for awhile.

After what Hard Forum had to say about the Phenom II's in their article about upcoming Bulldozier Architecture I decided that I'm never going to get a Phenom II.

I've read some history about AMD processors and there were years when AMD had a superior processor over intel. That was back when the Athlon first came out. But this is a time when intel is the one with the better CPUs at comparable price points (Such as a Core I5 on a LGA 1156 socket).

I think that, in a couple years from now, if I can't wait for the prices on Bulldozier processors to fall than I will just get a Core i5/LGA 1156 solution.

I wonder whether the 95watt version will also give you more overclocking headroom. Either way, this is a good price since you can get a decent OEM like HSF for $20-25. For heavy overclocking though, a very good HSF is needed anyway.
 
I'm hoping microcenter gets the 95w ones in so I can get the $40 off motherboard too. I'd really like to upgrade on a low budget and I feel like that's the processor that will carry me the longest.
 
I just wish the 1055T was a BE but it is still a nice chip.. probably get one myself unless the 1075T arrives here in the US soon.
 
I would need to replace my motherboard, ram, and the processor. I've been looking into both Intel and AMD for my near future upgrade. While the i7 has the performance crown the x6 has amazing price/performance. I would definitely go for the X6 in my case.

read the reviews.. its an OEM 1055t 125w.. they have it mis listed on TD.. To my knoledge only OEM's are getting 95w x6's at this time
 
That review just appeared. Good to know though. BTW, I called them this afternoon about it and they said that if it's not the 95w as advertised, they'll take it back no problem.

You know, just in case anyone wants to gamble on it...
 
Does a processor with a 95w TDP mean more room to over clock? Is that why you guys keep talking about that?
 
not necesarially....it means it will run cooler, and be a great choice for a server/htpc .... this is [H] ofc
 
Oh yeah, please post some screens. If they've really got it, I'm going to order one.

Hrm, just noticed mine is running at 1.4V while the 95W version is supposed to use 1.3V. Not sure whether I got a 95W or it's a problem with my motherboard. The label on my CPU is:

I discovered that when turbo boost is enabled, the voltage to my CPU is increased to 1.4V, which seems like a rather excessive jump. Here is the SS with turbo boost disabled:
