I need to put together a computer that will be used for at least 5 years. No gaming, no graphic design, nothing fancy, just web browsing, email, word, and so on. I am working with a very limited budget so some sacrifices would need to be made in order to have a 64 bit processor. So my question is, would it be worth getting the a64 2800, or would a 2500 or even 2000 be enough?

for 5 years, I would go 64bit... so the 2800+ a64 would be the way to go...

Windows will be 64bit soon...

I think your underestimating it by a longshot. There are barely even any 64 bit drivers for xp64. Let alone the fact that you can still dl for free because of beta testing. Personally i think that it will be out just before the release of longhorn, but that's my 2 cents. On the other side, there are a few linux distos that run in true 64.

Cheers.
