Would Prescott kill my board?

At the moment i have an ASUS P4C800 deluxe with a 2.4C and im about to build another cheap comp for my dad cuz he just needs basic stuff so i'm thinking about moving the 2.4C to his computer and i buy a new cpu either a 3.0C or 3.0E for myself. But im still unsure about which one i should get. And would the 3.0E kill my board, i heard that the prescotts require some special power regulation stuff....
I've had a 3.0C before that hit 3.77ghz so i was wondering how much i would need to overclock the prescott to beat this and what i usually do is DVD ripping, so gaming is not important to me
and would getting a raid0 of two 40gb 7200rpm 8mb cache western digital harddrives increase ripping times? or is it just dependent on cpu, and would increasing memory bandwidth help encoding? because right now i have 5000MB/s and encoding a dvd takes around 19mins @3.3ghz on dvd shrink after it has been ripped onto the computer

Is your board the:

P4C800
P4C800-Deluxe
P4C800-E Deluxe
P4C800-V

Either way you can look up the CPU's that are supported for each model directly at this link:

Make sure to pick your correct model motherboard in the drop down list on the upper right of the web page screen after selecting "Query by Motherboard"
 
my board is the P4C800-Deluxe on asus's website it says that it's supported, but i'm concerned about how the prescott will be able to overclock with this board, because i've heard that it has less power stages or something in the mosfets

I have the same motherboard and as long as you update the bios it should run a Prescott no problem. I say should, as I would never use a Prescott in a million years and am currently using 3.4 Extreme Edition Northwood CPU.

Prescotts run VERY hot and it is likely your current cooling system will not be adequate. Further, due to this running very hot, Prescotts also throttle on their own, which reduces the lifespan of the CPU. Northwoods even outperform Prescotts in most functions except for video encoding where SSE3 instructions are used, as the Northwood is not SSE3 enabled.
 
Prescotts run extremely hot. EXTREMELY. I have one now and will upgrade soon and look for a more cooler processor.

it's not really the heat that puts strain on the board. it's that they use a different voltage and they put a much higher strain on the capacitors. likely your motherboard will be fine, but if it's pre-prescott than it may shorten the lifespan a bit. nothing to worry about though, as long as you plan on upgrading in the next 4-5 years.
