If I upgrade from a P3 866 MHZ to a Celeron 1.3 GHZ ??

Also: Is a Intel Pentium III 1.13 GHz 133MHz FSB, 256K Cache better than a Celeron 1.4GHZ (Both Processors are Tualatin)???

my celeron 1.3 overclocked to 1.6 on default voltage/cooling. id say go for the celeron over the p3 866 or even the 1.13. to spend any more money on that old of hardware isnt worth it.

celeron 1.3's are around 35$ so itll be cheap. just make sure your motherboard can support fcpga2 cpu's

aaahhh the tualatin, the cpu that intel should have but didnt further develop.

no it wont perform better, it may perform even worse... cache is king dont ya know.

The Celeron is a tualatin, it has the same amount of L2 cache. It will perform better than a P3 866MHz in everything. The only thing which may reduce the speed gain is the fact that the Celeron uses a 100MHz FSB, but not to the amount that it will be slower than the P3.

If I were you, I wouldn't even bother upgrading from a P3-866 to a Celeron 1.3.

I'd save up and get an Athlon XP 2200 with a decent motherboard (perhaps an Asus A7N8X-X) for about $110 and 512 MB of cheap PC2100 DDR for about $50.

Granted that's $160 instead of $40 but the performance would be leaps and bounds better than a Celeron 1.3.

Or even better, an Athlon XP 2600 (333 FSB) with the same motherboard ($120) and 512 MB of cheap PC 2700 DDR (about $50).

Err... that's definitely worth the extra $20 ;-)

no, not sure about other chipsets, but the only intel chipset that supports tualatins is the 815ep. bad part about that chipset is it only supports 512mb of ram. they do make converters that make tualatins work in fcpga s370's and slot1's

tualatin celerons and p3's both have 256kb of cache, the p3-s has 512kb.

Not with the 1.0a celerons or higher. They are Tualatins. Have 256k of full speed cache just like the Coppermine P3's. There are two architectural differences though. 1) Only 100Mhz FSB availabe, but they overclock like mad and 2) Cache timing is 1 instead of 0 as with the P3's.

Yes and no. The 133MHz FSB and 512k L2 cache will make it perform at stock faster than a Celeron for sure. The Celeron being on a 100MHz FSB will overclock higher. If you are considering using the P3, I'd just get a midrange P4 (or AMD if you prefer).

Do all Socket 370 Motherboards accept Tualatin Core Processors ??

No. You have to look through the specifications of the motherboard to see if they are Tualatin compatible. The i815ep for the most part is, and the two most recent Via chipsets are (can't think of their names of the top of my head).

Powerleap makes adapters for both Slot-1 and Socket370. The work really well to. Put a couple in computers in the past and had no issues. Had old Dell P2-350's running Celeron 1.0a's for only a $100. Helped a school I used to contract with for support upgrade their network without shelling out the big bucks.

tualatins are not all 100 fsb, my bro has a 1.26 p3-s that is a tualatin w/ 512k of cache and a 133 fsb. only the celerons are limited to 100 only.

Tualatin Celerons are all 100Mhz. The P3's are most price prohibitive...too expensive considering what you can get today for the same money.

They have developed that core further. It's called Banias and Dothan. Seriously the Dothan and Banias are based on the same P6 architecture the Pentium Pro/Pentium II/Pentium III were based on.

Intel only went with Netburst because they couldn't get the P6 architecture to scale any higher.
