ok, 2-3 weeks, ill be getting my ATI 9800XT again.. (used to have one and downgraded to 9700pro to get 1800FP ;)) and now ive sold my 2x512 Geil memory and downgraded to 1x512 PC3200LL.

will i be hurting the games i play if i do this? downgraded to 1x512 PC3200LL and upgraded to 9800XT.

games i play:

CoD, FFXI, NFSU

my reasons y i want to upgrad my video card are: be able to run vsync on tripple buffering enabled, all eye candy enabled, highest res i can get on games and decent framerates..

w/ my 9700pro cant really do this.. especially on my FFXI online.. my fps will go down to 5-10fps when im at huge crowd and i cant enable the shadow, weather effects features on games..

so ya.. flame away.. im just lookin for ans if i will be hurting more if i do this.. any suggestions, comments or flames (dont care) is accepted..

while i wouldn't justify an upgrade from a 9700 pro to a 9800xt as worthwhile, if you have the funds for it (which it seems you do), then you might as well :D . although, keep in mind that you aren't going to see a large increase in performance.

Great suggestions, the XT is great.. PRO is great too. Although 1x512 will limit you a bit. For now you should be ok, but I would seriously consider upgrading another 512 in the future.

ya no doubt.. i will be upgrading to 1 gig.. this card is temporary only.. i will be getting maybe a pc4000 in a 2-3 months.. i was gonna get 9800pro if the new ati card will come out in 2 months, but that's not happening for what i know that's y i went w/ 9800XT. this should keep atleast a yr b4 upgrading to a new ATI card. ;)

Its a horrible, horrible move to use just one stick of ram in a dual channel mobo. You should have done 2x256 instead of 1x512, since they are about the same price, and much better performance.

i couldnt find any 2x256 for sale here on our forum and to AT or anywhere else.. if they have, it's more expensive.. i bought 512 for reasonable price.. and the seller shipped first.. like i said.. it's temporary and ya i know it's horrible not to do dual channel :( but it's not the ram that im worrying about.. so u guys think this ram will be my bottleneck? im not gonna oclock as high as im running it now w/ 2x512geil.. buy maybe a slight oclock..

Your overlock probably wont suffer, but your bandwidth sure will. Which will give you less FPS in games.
