would i be better off going with a BFG 6600 GT Sli config? or should i got with an X850XT PE ?

BFG 6600 GT $255x2
or
X850XT PE $575+$10 shipped

my next computer specs:
Winchester 3200+
MSI Neo 4 platinum Nforce 4 platinum or DFI SLI
Lite-on DVD-RW combo drive
WD Raptor 74gb
Corsair XLPT mem- 2-2-2-5 timings pc3200
what i already have:

aspire 520watt PSU
Aspire X-dreamer 2
swiftech H20-120 WC kit with both the P4 and AMD retention brackets
Acer L1715 17" monitor
Audigy 2 ZS gamer LE sound card

I would personally go with the single card solution but your probably going to hear varying opinions. It's all about money.

If you had your heart on SLI I would buy a single 6800 GT or ultra and get a second at a later date. This is of course my opinion.

2 X 6600 GT in SLI are usually equal to 1 X 6800 GT AGP or PCI Express in games.

I say buy one 6800 GT PCI Express card ($420.00 on Pricewatch) and then buy another one later once the price goes down more.

EDIT

Oooooooooo. We do think alike sir!

Yoru post was not there when I started writing mine.
I went over to Pricewatch and stuff.

yeah, i might just go with the single card solution... because it's cheaper than getting 2x 6800 Gt's, or i might just get the $800 bundle from chumbo with their BFG 530 watt PSU... but i don't know what kind of performance i can expect from dual 6800 GT's

edit: also, i will only be playing games at 1280x1024

If you're not planing on playing 1600*1200 with all AF & AA, the 1 * 6800GT is enough, probably 1*6600GT.

The 2*6800GT config. is good only with 1600*1200 + filters, with lower resolutions there is not much performance gain from 1 to 2 6800GT's.

yeah, i will probably only be playing at 1280x1024 res.. probably just get the x850xt pe and just turn up all the filters and stuff...

There shouldn't even be any question about which to get. The X850 is so much better than dual 6600GT's that the only reason to not go for the X850 would be because you simply can't afford it.

Also, don't pay $255 for ANY 6600GT. You can get PCI-Express versions for as low as $184 on Newegg, and there are 2 versions from actual quality brand-names for under $200.

Also don't forget SLI cards are reduced to single cards in any game without a profile in the Nvidia drivers.

yeah, i can still afford going to an X850xt, but i would probably want to go wtih an SLI set-up, because its more future proof...

really? you can afford one x850xt? how much are you paying for it? if it's like anywhere near 800.... ..get two 6800gt's heh...

One X850XT is 500 on Newegg look it up sometime.
Also I do not think the SLI setup is "Future proof" as you say. Everything gets revised so I wouldnt jump on that bandwagon right at the moment. To restate get the quiter more realiable dual slot X850XT from New Egg. To simply state it why spend 800 dollars on two cards that only use full power on certain games.

At those prices I'd go with the x850. $255 for a 6600 GT is robbery pure and simple. I paid like $200 each for mine.

IF you can afford an 850 then get an sli board and a single Ultra. The Ultra will play anything you toss at it and it is sLI enabled so you can add one later if you so desire. Teh 850 is not sli compatible

yeah, i will probably just go with a single X850XT PE, they have one for $550+ at GameVE.com +$10 shipping.... and i definately want an XT PE
