Would AS5 help my overclock?

I am running my GPU at 558Mhz core and 1140Mhz memory. Anything more than that and I get artifacting. The GPU temp under load gets to about 70C.

Do you think putting AS5 on the GPU and then reattaching the heatsink would help my overclock any? How easy would it be to do this?
 
It won't help at all really. If you're already seeing that kind of overclock with no heat issues then you are hitting the voltage wall that we all know and hate. Only way to get higher clocks now with no artifacting is to volt mod.

p.s. im on a iMac @ work right now so maybe its just me......but your sig is 15 lines long man. please shrink it down to 10 or less. 5 lines is all any1 really needs. ty. ;)
 
Yeah your temperature is fine. Getting it cooler isn't going to help the fact that the processor just can't go faster with the amount of power it's getting. Either way, new thermal compound can only really give you a couple of degrees advantage, if anything at all, which wouldn't do much good even if it was a temperature problem.

agree with the 2 previous posts, but am a believer in AS5...why not try it?
 
Okay, thanks. I guess AS5 might help a bit, but yeah you're right I guess it's not temps that is limiting my overclock.

BTW, just wondering, how much more overclock could I expect if I did voltmod the card? Not that I'm going too, just curious(sp?).

Also, is there anything else I can do to make my card go faster, like unlocking extra pipes or something?

yup nothing like the risk of toasting the card completely :rolleyes:
of course, removing the cards HS and installing AS5 voids warranty anyhow :eek:

thats always relative :p

but I agree changing the TIM isnt going to make much difference

there are 3 things that will have substantial impact
increase the interface area to the transport medium (the size of the heatsink)

change the volume and pressure of the medium to time
(increase the airflow\waterflow in the case of air CFM & static pressure)

change the temperature differential
the heatsink temperature is of cource tied to the work that is being done (the high part of the differential)
but the temperature of the air (or water) is under your control and makes an absolutely huge impact, you double the temperature differential you double the heat that can be transfered in the same time period with the same interface and transfer mediums same volume to time

QFT, unless you're getting miscolored pixels it's not going to do anything
and your sig is gigantic, way to big
 
Okay, thanks for the replys.

BTW, the artifacting is miscolored pixels. I get green patches scattered over some textures. But I'm not going to voltmod it anyway. I'm happy with my current overclock.
 
I'm greatly concerned with the length of your signature as well - but even more concerned with this:

. I don't know what you use your computer for - but if I ever had only 30 minutes of prime95 stability - I would find myself backing down something... I used to loop prime95 torture test AND 3dMark2001 together as a stability test. If it didn't hold up at LEAST overnight - I would clock it down from there.
 
I'm not saying don't use AS5, and I'm not saying you shouldn't try to get your temps lower... what I am saying is that your temp isn't blocking your OC (most likely, if it is you have some issues beyond insufficient OC hehe), and even if it was, AS5 wouldn't really help you OC it further... but hey AS5 is good stuff, feel free to use it regardless! hehe
