Here's a summary:

I've been thinking my mobo is defective. RMAd once and problem persisted. Either my hard drives wont be recognized by the motherboard or they will be recognized but won't boot up (Boot disk error).

I've tried the drives in other computers and they are in working order.

Seeing as I RMA'd the motherboard and got one back and it still did the same thing I was thinking it might be the processor.

Would or could a processor cause that problem of not recognizing or booting the hard drives?

I happened to notice that there MIGHT be a tiny tiny chip in the CPU but I'm not sure yet as I hadnt taken a whole lot of time to find out. But I just dont want people saying that that is the problem just because I mentioned there was a chip in it. Is it even possible for a processor to cause this problem with the hard drives?

its a possibility that that little chip could fuxzors ur puter, but if the cpu was dammaged it would not even start booting, it would just turn on and you would get no display, but since its just not detecting your hd's your jumpers are probably not set right, how many hd's do you have hooked up? if its just 1 master the hd does not need a jumper, with one on master it will not detect, thats only if you have 2 that you set 1 to master and 1 to slave or even both to cable select. theres also the possibility that your IDE controler is fuxzored, if thats the case its time for you to buy a new mo-bo. :D good luck dood.
 
o wow ur from michigan, what city? lmao u may be in driving distance, i do make house calls with my business if that could be a possibility 40/hr for standard survice add 20 bucks if its a house call for me to drive out there.
 
I'm using two hard drives. The jumpers are set right. I dont know if it'd be the IDE controller or not. I RMAd this mobo and got a new one and I was getting the same problems, so it would have to have been bad on both boards they sent me. I just RMAd it again for a 2nd time so we shall see if it's really the motherboard hopefully.

And I live in Ishpeming Michigan. It's a smaller town way up north. It's by Marquette have you heard of that? Where you live?
 
Have you tried different cables yet? I've seen flakey cables do wierd things like that. It's something to try, if you haven't yet. Also, are both drives on the same channel, or different channels. Have you tried just the one drive, and not the other?
 
I've tried different cables as well as just one drive, neither worked. How can I tell if they're on different channels? I'm not familiar with that.
 
I had accidently one cable reversed plugged in on one disk, then both were not recognised, luckily nothing damaged. The one disk allowed me to put cable in wrong, while the other I cant.....Better slot.

Plugged in correct way round in at MB & Disk IDE-1/IDE-1 ?
Does the disks get power= 12V ?

This may not make sence, seeing you got other MB.
At the stage before boot, it's a matter for the BIOS to see it via the cable & Master/Slave settings. for IDE 1/2.
I would go in BIOS and select optimised defaults, save and restart.......

Is it even possible for a processor to cause this problem with the hard drives?

>I hardly think so, cause a lot of other stuff happens in BIOS where the processor is needed before it gets to the disk..as far as I know the processor has no direct links to disk, but interfaced by MB chipset & IDE.
