Unless you have games that are struggling with the 4870, but would reach playable framerates with the 4890 - definitely not.
Considering how close the performance of the two cards is, spending $100 or so (assuming you can sell the 4870 within $50 of retail) would be a complete waste of money.
As I posted in another thread - my rule of thumb is to not upgrade unless I can double the performance for about AU$200 (approx US$130) or less - and then only if I actually need the upgrade.
thanks for the reply,i took the plunge.I can say this is a better card,but agree it is not
double the performance.I have another computer that will recieve the 4870 card and will
then use for t.v.,possible overkill,but should be able to handle anything for a long time.
