Do you guys think it is worth waiting for PCI Express x2 for a SFF gaming system?

It seems to have taken ages for what will hopefully be a decent mAXT board to come out. AMD are planning PCI-E x2 GPU's for May it seems:

But how long after that will we have to wait for a decent PCI-E x2 board is anyone's guess ...

Is anyone else thinking of holidng out and getting a cheap PCI-E x2 board and decent GPU when they come out and then get a 'real' mATX gaming board when it eventually comes out for PCI-E x2?

I have a case and some components in it ready to go but no mobo, CPU, GPU or RAM yet as I have been waiting (like everyone else) on a decent mobo.

What do you guys think?

For starters, PCIe "x2" has a very specific meaning. This is PCIe 2, or 2.0, or v2.

More importantly:
What's so magical about it? We're just beginning to saturate AGP and PCIe x8, so a full x16 slot should be plenty for a few years yet (apart from maybe SLI). Furthermore, PCIe v2 should be backwards compatible and accept PCIe 1.0a cards.
In both cases, don't let that be the only thing holding you back. Get your SFF today, and enjoy it!

Yeah, if you are always waiting for the new technology then you will be waiting forever :)

From a bandwidth view, PCI-E 2.0 is as useful as SATA II – not at all! The previous generation wasn't even near capacity.

pcie 2.... jesus....I just got a FING Pcie card in November. Now i have to turn around and upgrade everything else again!

honestly though, The Register......? wtf

Personally that website ranks with those tabloid magazines you see sitting in the checkout lanes at grocery stores.

They aren't always the most reputable, but that doesn't change the fact that they are right once in a while.

Unfortunately, this is one of those times. :(
Yes, PCIe 2.0 has already been finalized. It's the same reason new power supplies will have an eight-pin PCIe connector instead of (or in addition to) the current six-pin. They promise twice the power delivery, or 300W per plug instead of 150W.

Thanks for the replies guys, I won't let this hold me back on finishing my SFF rig :D

I dont think PCIe 2.0 in of iteslf is worth the wait. If you arent planning on building till then you may want to wait but no reason to hold off just for it.
