Is it worth upgrading my video card @ this stage in the game (see my sig for specs) ? I was considering either a Radeon X800XL 256MB AGP ($299 CDN), or an X800 Pro AGP ($229 CDN), but is it even worth putting that much more power in my machine? Will it improve my resolution/FPS in HL2 at all?

This is exactly the same thread that I was going to start....however my CPU is 600MHz faster than his. I have a 9700pro now and I want more out of BF2. I currently run most settings on low at 1024*7??. I need fast FPS and I didn't know if BF2 was limited more by CPU like HL2 or more by video card like doom3. I am looking at getting THIS which is the best card for the money hands down. Guy above, you should get that one specifically because they ALL unlock to 16 pipes which is a free XL upgrade and they often overclock to PE speeds easily. Anyways, would it be worth it to upgrade to this card for BF2? I plan on keeping my current rig for at least 1 more year because I just got enguaged and future finances look thin (1.5 years from now I will have fat loot however :) )

for bf2, getting a second gig of ram would probably be a good investment, too.

Things are fucked up over here. The XL's are quite a fair bit cheaper than pros.

I upgraded from a 9600xt and it was a HUGE jump.. Well worth the price tag.

I just prefer ATI cards over nVidia, unless say I could get a Geforce 6800 GT for cheaper than either of the X800's. I've pretty much crossed off any of the midrange stuff allready. I guess I'm trying to max out what life I've got left in my machine. I may try BF2 down the road, but it's not a big priority, as I'm more of a single player kinda guy.

I don't suppose there's any chance of ATI announcing any AGP cards in the new line-up? SM 3.0 would probably be handy to have

A mate of mine went from a Geforce MX440 to a X800Pro... and I got to say. Its made a big differents on him for BF2.

Went from 800x600 Lowest Settings... to 1024x768 Highest settings, 4xAA soild 50-60FPS atleast.... So it would be a massive jump.
I would like to upgrade my dating rig anyday now :p

LOL, I never noticed that. It's been a while since I bothered to check Pricespy. It makes me sad to see that half my components have decreased in cost so significantly since I bought them in December. :( I guess that's what you get for buying into the cutting edge. :p

Well, seeing no mention of AGP in ATI's new line-up .. I took the plunge and ordered an X800 Pro 256MB AGP from shopati.ca for about $217 CDN. Hopefully all goes well :)
