I have an i7 950 cpu, but its been quite a while so I was looking at the Intel Core i7-4790K an 1150 based system. I would only add new cpu, mobo, and ram and reuse the rest of my components. That being said, if I'm not getting a really noticeable performance boost its not worth it to me. Then I'll just ride this Gigabyte board out till it bites the dust...ya know sometime eventually 6 years later... maybe.

Figured I'd add this from CPU Boss... seems like it would be a significant jump?

Thanks

Are you overclocking at all?

The best bang for buck upgrade would be to get a 6-core LGA 1366 XEON off of Ebay for around $100 and overclock.

I would also upgrade the RAM to 3x4GB sticks at ddr3-2000 or so.

If you don't want to overclock, then the newer system will give you a noticeable upgrade.

If you're going to spend any money, I'd say go ahead and buy something thats much better stock, then you can overclock when needed. Thats just my opinion. I've went the cheaper route where I want to overclock, but I feel like you end up upgrading much sooner when doing so - rather than just spending a little more now.

I'm not currently overclocking. I was hesitant to stick with the 1366 board because it seems like its been somewhat abandoned and didn't necessarily make sense to stay on it?

That is interesting suggestions thought.

Well what are you using your PC for?

This is a better comparison:

Just add 10% to the Core i7 4770K and you basically get the results of the 4790K.
