I've been toying around with the idea of upgrading my current video card or just building a new system. The performance I get currently is acceptable, but wondering if I'd see much improvement on the gaming side if I were to upgrade. Below is the current hardware. I don't have a preference on nvidia or ATI. Also know crossfire is out due to the ports not running at the same speed on my board. Thanks

How much is your budget? I suggest you upgrade the CPU and GPU, a X6 1090T with GTX 760 will give you huge performance increase if you don't want to build a new system.

I don't really have a set budget, but was wondering if I'd see much performance improvements with a GPU upgrade in the $200 range.

a GPU upgrade in the $200 (used GTX 670) range will give you ~ 3x to 4x the performance of your current HD 5770 but the CPU will hold you back. Get a Phenom II X6/X4 and a GTX 660 which will cost you around ~ $250 and you will see a healthy boost in all games. I really don't want to recommend any AMD/ATI GPU since their price is currently over inflated due to mining business.

I would get a AMD card that supports Mantle myself that has GCN as you may feel left out when it releases on BF 4..

I upgraded to an HD 5870 from an HD 5770 2 years ago and that was a big difference. I upgraded again late last December from the HD 5870 to GTX 760 and that was a big difference. So yeah you will notice a difference unless you are playing flash based games or are already getting 60 FPS on the games you currently play and plan to play.
