Worth upgrading to WD6400AAKS RAID-1?

I'm thinking about buying a pair of WD6400AAKS drives to reduce noise and temperature within my case. I currently have 4 WD drives (Raptor, 500GB, 2x320GB) that run 40-45C, and make the most noise out of anything in my case. I don't plan to use any of the old drives in the new system, so the 640GBs will be the only ones. Between my current drives, I use 600GB of space (200 of which I never access, and can move to an external drive).

In order, my priorities are:
1.) Noise
2.) Storage Space
3.) Temperature

With these factors in mind, would it be worth spending $230 for the new drives?

The 6400AAKS is basically silent, so if noise is a big factor then they would be a good upgrade. They are fast also, so it's not like you are going to be losing much if any speed. Mine runs about 35-38C (I have two drives stacked with a 120mm fan blowing on them at low speed). As to whether it's worth the money, that's really a decision you need to make.

That seems awfully high. I was getting those temperatures with my four drives and a low-speed exhaust fan, until the outside temperatures hit 60F (no a/c yet) and started screwing with my case.

What are your ambient temperatures like?

I've decided to use my 500GB in an external enclosure, but am not sure whether to put the 640GBs in RAID 0 or RAID 1.

I have about 30GB of music to back up, along with school documents and savegames. Not sure if it's worth the hassle manually backing them up to the external HDD, though.
