Worth upgrading i7-950?

Got it ~2 years ago. Is it even worth upgrading at this point? Or should I wait for the next generation? If not, I will most likely upgrade my GPU instead.

Since you have it at 3.7GHz, why upgrade? New Intel sockets are too expensive for upgrades, IMO, until your current socket is too far behind (775).

What games and at what resolution do you play if the 6870 is still not enough for you? Try CrossFire?

Short answer is No, it is not worth upgrading right now.

Only thing worth it is if you find a hex core that is a reasonable price. With these type of things timing is important, and the time to get a new hex core may have passed, but there is always the used market. Such an upgrade would more than likely take you past socket 2011 to the next enthusiast socket. GPU upgrade makes more sense if your video card is also 2 years old as well.
