Using the rig in my signature, is it worth the $70 to upgrade from 32GB DDR4 3200 to 3600?

(If I gain say, 5fps on avg... I may go for it)

Thanks

I'd expect gains from zero to maybe 1-2%. You might, maybe, get 5 fps but only if you're already hitting well over 100 fps with the slower memory. I doubt very much that you would be able to tell subjectively.

You'd probably do better to fine-tune your subtimings if you haven't already.

What are the timings on the current RAM? for example 3200c14 to 3600c18 would be slower than what you have and 3200c14 can OC to 3600-3800c14.
Going over 3200 will also change something within the CPU that will make it use ~4w more power idle and load which takes a smidge away from the power budget of the CPU and can make HSF louder at idle.

If you take the time to OC\tune the current kit of RAM you could see ~10% performance increase in some CPU limited games but a 3600 kit at XMP would be up to 5% improvement depending on the timings of the kits.

look at your kits 3600 version and see if yours will run at its timings. its what i did with mine.

If your 3200 is really blazing like cl12, and the 3600 is slower like cl18 I would suspect you'll actually see losses. If they are close like 3200/16 and 3600/18 I doubt you'll see any difference.

My current 3200 kit is cl16, and the 3600 kit I was eyeing is also cl16...

Soooo it's looking like it wouldn't be worth the $??

IMO it is not worth it by any stretch, but Internet would have you believe you must buy expensive fast ram or your Ryzen chip is going to be bottlenecked and you are less of a person.

Without going too hard into the tweaking -- I've owned some b-die and some cheapo ram; the b-die was disappointing at running at higher speeds and the cheapo ram is pleasant surprise at running faster speeds. Running out of box XMP profiles for whatever reason I've also found are meaningless.

If its 16-19-19 you may be looking at ~0-3% if its 16-16-16 maybe 0-5% in some CPU limited sections of gamepaly.
So if you think that is worth the $ sure but there is other ways to get much bigger gains like 5800X3D or 7800X3D.
As mentioned tweaking the current kit will get you bigger gains than replacing it and cost you nothing but time.
