i have a Tyan Tiger MPX S2466 AMD-760 MPX Dual Athlon MP Board (2x 2400_Mp's)with 2gb's (4x512)of ram and a 9800 pro (128) and i would rather get the most out of this system be for i have to do a full upgrade so what AGP card could i get and would it be with it? a side note the max agp speed for this board is 4x so would it really even be worth it?

Thanks for any and all input

whether it's worth it or not for you is completely up to you; i doubt you'll see much of a performance problem because you're running 4x. I'd look at grabbing either a vanilla 6600 or 6600gt.

the only issue is that although you'll see a significant boost in terms of speed (most significant with the 6600gt) I think it might be a good idea to wait until you're going to be building a new rig.

I would grab a 6600GT or 6800GT used or new you get the latest features which might last you a bit longer or the ATI cards which don't support new features and might cost the same or more but provide enough uumpf. I wouldn't mind one of the ATI card but some places are charging 7800GT prices for yesterdays crap.

IMO both ppl gave bad advice. the 6600 is slower then your 9800pro and the 6600gt is only a little bit faster. As for picking up x800xt, x850xt, or 6800gt I am not sure how well they will work on an agp x4 mobo and those cpus are showing their age. A lot of games these days are requiring 2.0ghz + as minimal system specs. Maybe if you can over clock your cpus into the 2.4 ghz range the newer agp video card might be worth it. If you could carry over the video card to your new machine it wouldn't be a problem, but since new computers are using PIC-E you would have to get a new video card agian when you upgrade.

My advise is to just hold off until you have enough money for entirely new system. Your 9800pro plays all games still, although I am sure newer games only run at medium or low settings. (but thats partially the cpu's fault).

ill just quote myself then.

The reason I said the advice was bad is the 6600 and 6600gt would no show advange or very little over his 9800pro, and the 6800gt AGp is over priced and hard to find (~$300 range)

yeah, i'd agree w/the 6800gt...it'd be pointless as well b/c the processor would be holding him back.

and I was thinking of the 6600 ddr2, but I just realized its pcie only :(
the 6600gt would show a significant performance increase, but then again, I'm not sure paying the money for it now would be worth it.

but yeah, it just doesn't make much sense to attempt an agp upgrade at this point.
wait for socket m2 and build yourself a new beast!
