Worth Lapping True Black?

i havent lapped anything since a slot 1 celeron. my temps with an i7 920 @ 1.37v vcore are a little warmish - 40c idle. would lapping the true really help? or would i just pick uo a couple degrees?
 
I found it to be beneficial on my TRUE black and q6600 combo. Lapped both to 2000 grit and knocked 11-12 degrees of my temps. It really benefits more when both the cpu and cooler are lapped, but i personally wouldnt want to lap a cpu as new as an i7 due to it invalidating the warranty. Although you could try lapping the cooler alone and it may well yield some good results.:)
 
Technically overclocking and overvolting that cpu invalidates the warranty too, so I would go ahead and lap both.

not the same thing whatsoever. Overclocking can be undone, there is no evidence of overclocking left (unless you fried the chip with too much voltage), and does not alter the cpu like lapping it does. you can't very well replace all the shit you sanded off on an ihs.

regardless, i would lap both as well.
 
I would lap both, its beneficial and will lengthen the life of your CPU if you lower temps.

If you lap it, you might need to add a shim in between the CPU and TRUE bracket so it's not loose. Most I've seen use a thin washer.

lol i thought it was "T"hermal"R"ight "U"ltra "E"xtreme.. but meh what ever..

since i havent heard of anyone lapping their i7's yet fusion.. might be worth a shot to be the first one to report results on lapping an i7..
