Worth it to upgrade?

I'm currently running a Rampage III Formula with an X5650 @ 4.4Ghz. I love the combo, but the old ICH10R and Marvell SATA III are not giving me the greatest performance. Is it worth the $$ and effort to upgrade to a newer platform for the sake of disk I/O, specifically PCIe SSD? Is there enough of an overall performance increase if I jump 2-3 generations?
