Hi! if any user here can show me the light if it's worth it to pay extra for a 7800GT?
Sapphire x800GTO2 oc'ed to X850Xt pe for 210$ vs a bfg or evga 7800GT for around 300$?
Is there a huge gap between the 2 cards with the performance? I am not really playing BF2 or anything like that. I am playing something like WoW or GuildsWar or coming Heroes of Might and Magic.
Thank in advance

Go with the GTO2 if you're not playing a highly graphical intensive game you don't need a high-end video card.

I think it's worth it because the 7800GT is a much better card and is very attractively priced (when did I turn into a salesman? :p ). Plus, you get CoD2 for free with 7800GT's.

If you do like any FPS game the 7800gt is a great card and the deal is very appetizing. But it may be overkill for the MMO he/she is playing now.

I think WoW would benefit at least from the I.Q. standpoint from the 7800GT? Dunno though because I play mostly FPS :D. I think there is a "huge gap" between the cards as the OP put it, but it may or may not be worth it.

What resolutions are you running at anyway?

Yeah sure it would definitely benefit but there is a $90 difference. The TR MSAA and TR SSAA does look pretty nice in any game. This makes me want my card back from eVGA really bad. :(

With the 7800GT you would get SM3.0, FP16HDR, and Purevideo.

If you are just looking to save money get a 6800GS.

aren't they different generation? you should compare 6800 with ATi 800 or 850, campare 7800 with ATI's 1800, =.=

it mean if I dont do play something too much hardcore then a x800gto2 oc'ed to x850xtpe should be enough? but for the long term? will that x800gto2 will be good for the next 2-3 years? or is it better that I buy a 6800gt or 6800gs? or just spam a 7800gt ?
Thank for all the comments guys

The CoD 2 deal is over.

But if you can get a 7800GT for $300, get it. It is a good card. It will perform better than last generation's cards (X850XT PE) and has a better feature set.

The card you got know is fine dude, don't listen to all these people telling you to get a new one for WoW, its not really that grapihcally intensive and it should be able to handle it fine. Should tear through Guildwars fine too, my X800XL ate that for breakfast.

The OP never told us what kind of card he/she/it was running. The question was which would be better a GTO2 OC'd or a 7800GT.

The 6800GS is the same gen as the GTO2. The X800XL is a good choice too. Pretty much any card in the $200 price range will handle WoW fine.

But the GTO2 wont be too good for future since its not SLi'able right? Correct me if i am wrong. Btw if anybody know where i can get a good deal for a GTO2 or a 6800GS?
Thank a bunch

I can't say from personal experience for such a long time scale, but I'd imagine that a moderately to heavily OC'd card is going to have a hard time lasting 2 full years. I think a lot of the people that put a good OC on their cards never keep them that long to find out though. Anybody have any better insight on this longevity issue?

If you want 2-3 years...might as well get the 7800GT since it might take a 6800GS SLI down right now  . Plus, you can always get the 2nd in a year or two when you want more performance.

If you can buy a x800gto2 for $210 I would. The x850xt PE is not much slower then the 7800gt, but the 7800gt overclocks too. Not worth the extra $90 IMO unless you want those extra features. Plus the $300 7800gt means messing with rebates. I have a 3dconnect x800gto modded to the x850xt pe speeds and it runs doom 3, quake 4, fear, HL2, frycry, and BF2 all at 1280x1024 (native res for my 19" LCD), all high settings, some/max AA and AF depending on the game. It will run WoW and Guildwars, which are mostly CPU limited games, with no trouble. I was so happy with my moded x800gto to x850xt pe speeds I purchased a used AGP x800xt for my older althon system (barton 2500+ @ 2.4 ghz). Too many nvidia fans these days ascerting their opinion as though its fact. SLI and crossfire are useless except maybe for the rich that want 2 of the fastest cards for $1000-1600, fun too see though. In 2 to 3 years you will be much better off selling your 6800gs, x800gto2, or 7800gt for ~$50 and buying a new $200-300 video card that will be more gpu power then 4 of your old cards in sli.

They have a different number of pipes at stock I believe. The GTO has been known to unlock pipes fairly successfully, so you could probably get one of those and have a great vid card, but it's not a guarantee.

what's the best choice of those 3?
eVGA 7800GT = 300$ shipped
eVGA 6800GS = 200$ shipped (the egg) ( not yet overclocked)
Sapphire X800GTO2 = 220$ shipped (already overclocked)

The 7800gt by far since it is the most powerful. It beats the other cards by a lot.
