i currently have a 64 2800+, 1gig pc2700 and 6600gt. I'm looking to upgrade. ive been out of the tech loop for a while, and now im reading and theres just too much stuff going on.. ok so conroe is coming out aug 7? are AMD am2 prices going to drop anymore? what is the difference between an am2 and 939? and is it worth buying an AM2 at this point, or should i wait for conroe? I'm on a budget, looking to get a comp (w/o monitor) for $500 or so.

also i might as well ask in this thread, for my 500 or so comp.. what are the best value and/or price/performance parts right now? which cpus, vid cards?

I'd say make the jump to AM2 to future proof your machine. If you're not a heavy gamer you shouldn't have any problem getting a good AM2 machine. If you don't want dual core you can get the 3500+ for $85. I use the 3500+ on 939 with 1GB ddr 400 and 6800GT. I'm having no trouble running any games out today. So I'd say make the jump now if you've been holding off or if you want wait another month for the whole conroe/AMD price drop to even out.

I am thinking about making the same jump to AM2. I just need help finding a good mobo for
OCing. Any suggestions?

I would consider getting some low latency PC-3200. In 1 Gig sticks. Are you still on agp?
