Worth adding a third 6950 for Tri Fire?

I have two 6950 2gb right now and they are awesome, but I was wondering if it would be worth it to add another 6950 later on. I have a good motherboard and 1050w power supply. How many frames would I gain while playing on 1920x1200 resolution?

I'd guess that at your res trifire might not be completely utilized, assuming you're using vsync for xfire. At 1920x1200 2 6950s should get you ultra and probably AA cranked up at 60 fps.

So its only good for really high resolutions? I can't seem to find any reviews comparing tri fire with regular crossfire.

At 1920x1200, an additional HD6950 is going to be diminishing returns, you have to be playing very high end games to need that much rendering performance. Unless it really irks you not being able to play Metro 2033 maxed out, you're probably best keeping with two 6950s for now and replacing them with a pair of 7970s in 6 months or so.

The second 6950 gave you 100% more performance for the same price as the first. A third 6950 will give you only 50% more performance. Unless you feel you are not getting high enough performance with your current setup you should hold off.

Well, in only a few select places will a third card actually be useful for you at that resolution, because 1920x1200 is not as graphically demanding as higher resolutions such as 2560x1440/1600 or eyefinity. In most situations, your current setup will allow you to run max settings and have a stable 60 fps, and only in a few select instances will your 2-gpu xfire require turning down maybe a little AA to keep stable 60 fps. The added bonus of a third 6950 would then only really result most of the time in frame-rates in excess of 60 fps assuming you didn't use vsync, and for most people such "excessive" framerates do not have any real tangible (perceptible) benefit.

In other words, I can run some graphically simple games on my rig at 500+ fps if I don't have vsync on - there is literally no difference on screen however between 500+ fps and 60 fps, so throwing more graphics power at it accomplishes nothing.

If you have a 120Hz monitor increase that base desired fps to 120, otherwise yes the 60fps argument holds true.
