Hello!

I wanted to check to see if it's worth it (cost/benefit) to upgrade from my current hard drive (Seagate 160gb-IDE-8mb/cache) to a 150gb Raptor or 320gb Western Digital Sata with 16mb cache.

I play a game or two, work with office suites, surf the web alot, and use only half of my current space.

The HD Tach and HD Tune Data for my current hard drive is below.

Since you only play a couple games and spend more time online i think that getting a Raptor would be overkill for you.

I still have two 160GB/8MB Seagates in service as boot drives, and they are still satisfactory. My WD2500KS is a good bit faster. Check out StorageReview's performance database, and make some comparisons. You may find the extra capacity and performance offered by a 320GB/8MB unit to be worth an investment of about $100, but I agree with the above that a Raptor is overkill for this application.

Neither is probably worth the cost/benefit. But.......if you're looking for the fastest drive possible, the Raptor is not overkill. There isn't one hard drive that is "overkill" as they are about the slowest components in you PC. The question is whether the severe price premium is worth it to you. If it's cost doesn't present a hardship, why not? For the OP, looks like you're fine with what you have, unless curiousity bites you...........
