Hey, i am looking to get a new comp for school and its turning out to be like the worst time ever to upgrade. i wont have a ton of money to throw at a new computer and it looks like with all the new things comming out as soon as i get this computer is going to be not just out of date (all computers are) but even not able to upgrage.

things like BTX, DDR2, PCI express, Socket 775 all with the new intel cheipset. looks like if i get a new comp now, i 1 year i will have to replace all the parts. case, mobo, ram, vid card, proc.

so right now i am thinking
1) buy an ok system 2.4, 9600, 512 of random ram. then upgrade in 2-3 years.
or
2) work my ass off in the summer and buy a sweet computer with all the new stuff.

Well if your current rig can hold up, it would be smarter to wait. Whats your current specs?

I'd say pick a thing or 2 now to upgrade, then save more money for a high-end rig once some of the new stuff starts showing up. I was tempted to get a new mobo, cpu, and a bigger HD, but I think I'll hold off for a bit. Did just order up some new RAM though... ;)

actually right after all the new stuff comes out it'd be the best time to upgrade. on account of the lowered prices for current top quality stuff.

how bout this: after all the new stuff comes out, you go and get urself a nice 3200+ (nonA64), a nice HSF (Zalman 7000A-AlCu), a nice mobo (DFI Ultra Infinity), a nice Gb of ram (dont know one off the top of my head), and ur set
that stuff should get a lot cheaper in the near future so go for it my friend :D

thats what i might dude, my current specs are nothing tho. i need a computer for when i move outta here. so i am going to work all summer and then when new stuff pops up i will pick up what i can buget.
