Worried about heat

I just remotely checked my home box and MBM says the my proc is 49c (120f). I looked in my task manager and nothing is running. I'm a little worried about that temp and was wondering if this is a dangerous temp for my cpu to maintain.

Also, last week the average idle temp was about 40c (102f)

I have a good heat sink on there already, a Cooler Master HHC-001 (or similar model)

Can someone let me know if this is a safe temp?

I'm thinking that I need to climb inside my box tonight and make sure that nothing is wrong with the fan/hs (dust bunnies, low rpms, etc...)
 
49c is nothing to worry about. I would not want that as an idle temp but, assuming that no one else is going to use it while you are gone, it's not an unsafe temp to maintain. It's the load temp that I would worry about.
 
just opening task manager made the temp jump to 122f. I logged it out and will check it again in a few minutes. If the temp is still high with nothing going on, I am going to shut it down to be safe.

Last week, the full load temps were 118 and now I have an idle temp of 122.

It's good to know that these temps aren't putting my proc at immediate risk, but I am worried about them none the less.

Well, living in Phoenix, I'm assuming it gets really hot down there (it being hell's furnace and all ;) ).

Would your room temp have anything to do with it? Are wires in the way of any fans or anything? Maybe you should try adding a couple more fans? or set up a desktop fan in front of your intake fan to blow some colder air in there?
 
I have a 120 in the front and another in the rear

Room temp is either about 82 if the door is open, maybe 90's if the door is closed.

MBM says it is about 98f inside the case so I am leaning toward door closed

I routed all my cables to not interfere with the airflow so I hope that isn't an issue.

I did a remote shutdown on the box just to be safe. The temps just kept rising...

I'm going to get inside the box tonight when I get home and make sure there is nothing wrong.
 
perhaps your thermal paste hasn't held up?

at any rate, that's not a horrible temp, although it's not great, after all, most automatic shutdown options on motherboards start at 60 degrees C. so you're kinda okay.

if you're concerned about airflow, read the airflow tweak in the Sticky ontop of General Hardware.
