Thanks to a research team at the University of Bristol, England, we are one step closer to the reality of home and mobile quantum computing. Contrary to popular opinion, size does matter or rather, lack of size matters. The key to the success of the Bristol quantum chip is the relative small size enabling the chip to be used in standard sized computers.

With the Bristolian quantum chip now in the wild, though, the capabilities and applications of quantum computing will begin to emerge. Experiments that used to take months to set up and run now take seconds.

im sure intel already has this technology once it becomes popular intel will buy all these companies out lol

If they ever get it working it will be able to play 10000 crysis games side by side....

Wow. The "can it play crisis" comments still are around huh? That's all people have to say about a leap in technology?

NEWS: "chickens like to eat dirt and are consumed buy humans as food"

PC ENTHUSIAST FORUM GOER: "yeah, but can that chicken play Crysis? LOL!"

NEWS: The taco has its origins in Mexico"

PC ENTHUSIAST FORUM GOER: " In before everyone else! Can that taco play Crysis?"

Give it up gentlemen. It wasn't funny even when it was relevant. Maybe it's funny if you have overdosed on hot pockets and red bull (or whatever spazed out people consume these days).

I wonder if Ron Paul can play Crysis...

anyways, it remains to be seen who's going to get a license. It'd be funny should TSMC get into the game.

What can you do today that you couldn't do yesterday with this "leap" in technology?

You can read about leaps in science and technology in the news everyday. They either come to nothing, or else by the time they come to market, they are just a small part of the gradual advancement that has been happening since the begging of the computer age. Technology continues on the same pace, and this invention hasn't changed that.

Cry some more.

if the patent holders had any brains, dont sell out to intel or AMD with this one. start your own company and blow the other guys out of the water.

5 to 10 years before this gets anywhere close to the consumer market, the x86 platform has the world by the nuts.

You mean start your own company and then be absorbed by Google. :D

I doubt they have much of a working breakthrough..
The first one of these Quantum Chip companies purchased by Intel will be the real deal..

Has anyone asked the important question? Can it play Crysis?

This is a quantum chip. It has the ability to both play and not play Crysis simultaneously, until someone observes it, at which point the probability fields crashes and so does your FPS.

So I'm assuming that the, "Will it Blend" people will get their hands on this, destroy it creating some type of black hole, ending the world in 2012?

Actually, it will create a white hole, where the energy from the CERN will be coming out. Now thatsa spicy ameatball!
