I just wanted to drop a note. I went out and bought WIC today from gamestop. ALso upgraded my Nvidia Video drivers from the WHQL directly from their website. Let me just say that the graphics are AMAZING!!!! In full DX10 Glory. THis is the first in what I hope are many many many DX10 games.

Having fun :D

Congratulations man, I plan on buying this game in the near future, I hope the DX9 version looks decent enough not to judge :)

Yay, you get a pebble or piece of rubble they claim is a piece of the Berlin wall. The game looks decent in DX9 but it's just Ground Control 2 with a mod/skin on top of it.

Are the graphics that much better in DX10? What improvements are there?

Short answer: Yes.

Realtime volumetric lighting and shadows, god rays, higher detail textures (I believe). Rest of my screenshots are here: http://picasaweb.google.com/karmazin/WorldInConflict

does anyone know if dx10 is enabled in the demo?

Those pics look amazing.

This is the best looking game so far this year. It is truly Directx10. Cant wait to see what Crysis has to offer and UT3.

I have to say, I tested between night and day between XP32 and Vista64. The nuclear explosions being one of the main things. I think I will finally give up XP and just stick with Vista64 fro hear on out. Now my investment in DX10 cards have fnally payed off.

How disappointing. A modern warfare stragety game. I don't really care how impressive it look, but this already been done to death.

Its very different from modern RTS's in that there's no resource management, base building, etc. - it's literally an FPS style game but centered around RTS unit management

I played the demo a couple of months back and did some testing but the DX10 and DX9 versions were identical visually, with the DX10 on about 30% faster in frames.

I don't remember any god rays or better textures. Did that all get added recently? I can't say I was bowled over with the graphics. I didn't think the technology was as impressive as CoH DX10 mode.

If it was a couple months ago, it was the beta, and didn't have DX10 support yet. Demo had DX10 and all the new candy.

Playing WIC in DX9 (7950GT) and looking at my mate play it on his DX10 8800GTS/640 and we agree it only looks a "little" better.

DX10 does add Realtime volumetric lighting which sounds very flash, however the OVERALL look is maybe 5% better than DX9.

If you have a 8800GTS640 (Great card), the major advantages are raw speed to play at higher resolution and better frame rates, the whole DX10 thing is bordering on a joke so far, don't buy into it.

Going to argue? turn off DX10, your are in for a shock :)

i get better performance in dx10 mode, and I can definitely tell a difference between lighting, smoke and soft particles. dx10 allows for much more efficient rendering of effects with less performance hit oppose to dx9. so yea ill argue

lol ok...... Get that out of a brochure of some kind?

Hey Drew, I'm curious. Have you had any problems at all with your Vista/8800/ IP35 Pro/Raptor combo? Just curious because I am building almost same rig, and there were issues with the Raptors and the rest of the combo, at Tom's. They actually quit using the Raptors with the rest of the combo when they test. I'll see if I can find the link.

no problems running vista ultimate x64. seems to be a vista x86 problem. up until I switched to the IP35pro i had been using the DFI P965-s which did suffer some data corruption issues but that mainly had to do with me running 4x1gb causing massive instability. fortunately i will probably never be using a 32-bit operating system again so no worries. especially with newer games like world in conflict taking advantage of the extra ram..

Hmm let me think I have seen this somewhere else before. RTS, no resource collecting, great graphics, modern playground and probably suckage AI.

Yep its your average RTS for sure and been there doned that to the death. Maybe Star Craft 2 brings something really new to the table, but I doubt that. In my opinion you really have to be a RTS junkie to get anything out of these clone RTS games nowdays. But hey, you cannot argue about matters of taste can you.

I remember World in Conflict very well. A year ago they introduce a trailer alongside DX10. It was a spectacular teaser. I'm glad the game completed.
OH by the way... Massive Entertainment also made a really fun RTS game called Rise of Nations, and it worked well with budgeted hardware.

I don't believe that's correct.

Rise of Nations, the Rise of Nations (the best RTS created to date) was made by some of the same people who developed the Age of Empires games (best RTS series of all time). RoN was basically a sequel to AoE in all but name. It's developer was Big Huge Games, led by Brian Reynolds, who is now developing the second expansion pack to AoE III.

RoN was the pinnacle of RTS development, and there hasn't been a good rts released since then. The strategy element has been systematically removed and the genre has been turned into an eye-candy fest with closer ties to fps than strategy.

Haha name calling. I hope you get banned.

looks like you beat me to it :eek::eek::eek::eek:

i've found that the full version of world in conflict runs much much better on my system... now i just have to plop down the cash to buy vista to uncover the uber-effects.

i'm really enjoying the single-player campaign... the multiplayer has my feeble mind a little overwhelmed though. :D

intense is a good word for a close multiplayer match coming to a close.

DX 9 vs. DX 10 there's almost no difference and they got better frame rates with DX 9. Still a really nice looking game though. Anyone have any 1680x1050 or better screenshots of it?

Wrong, bad review. That's old. They've changed the DX10 code a bit since then. Now DX10 runs at the same speed as DX9, identically.

DX10 looks a bit better with the soft particles on objects, god rays and other things like shadows from clouds.

I don't know why people keep saying stupid shit like "oh DX10 only looks a little better in this game". That's all that it is SUPPOSED to be...

Don't you guys realize that effects (which is all that DX10 can offer improvements on) are only a portion of any given scene? DX10 won't change art or models from DX9.. stop expecting things to look 500% better.

This game is great...i run it at 14X 9 and get like 30 fps on low and it still looks beatiful =)

I have 2 6600's =)
