well I'm finally doing it, installing a carputer, or rather a JeePuter ;) . I'm not going all out, at least at first, and buy all of the best stuff like a VGA LCD until i see how much I use it. I plan on using it for DVDs, DivX, Emulation, MP3s and whatever else I can think of. For now its a simple PII 400MHz, 192MB Ram, 6GB HD, ATI AiW 128 and a 6" TFT composite input LCD, oh and a full customized stealth case to fit in the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have just started building the case itself, so I'm a little further along than the pic, but still have a ways to go before everything is together.

This is my concept of the case:

The outside of the case will be covered in the same carpet as the carpet in my Jeep so it will be almost completely invisible.
Each chamber will be enclosed and cooled seperatly.
The round thing is my spare tire, so the case is between it and my back seat.

I will be updating again soon...hopefully tomorrow sometime.

Looks like a good idea to me, but I would try to round that left side of it to fit along with the tire. Would probably look more stock that way.

That's nice. Where are you going to get the power? I don't think there's a wattage necessary in your car to power itself AND the computer??

I was trying to think of a way to round it to go around the tire before, but i couldnt think of any material that a could bend to fit the shape. Any ideas?

I should have got more into the specifics: The 245Watt PSU is going to be powered by an all time 300Watt Invertor w/ 600W Peak. There is a switch on the convertor already but i'm gonna put another one inline so that I can control the switch from up in the driver's seat.

you could use plexi. Infact, it looks big enough to where bending a piece of plexi to fit would not be difficult at all. What materials are you using to make this case? If your using MDF or some other wood for the sides. Or even plexi for the sides, it would be very easy to cut a shape out of them to allow for the bend.

good luck on your JeePuter (love the name!)

Here's a picture of my carputer before I pulled both the system and computer from the car.

well i'm using wood...the cut itself for the side showing wouldnt be hard. The hard part would be bending the wood that would be the "roof" around the tire....without the wood breaking...maybe plexi would be the answer...hmm...now u got me thinking...
and thanks for the name compliment..lol...
