that is looking very sweet. how many computers do u have again?

plugged in and using? about..... 6

laying there collecting dust? your guess is as good as mine :)

i have some updates i'll post later today..

Awesome work dude! I have a question though:

How much did you pay for the table material?

I've been planning for a even larger workshop for my garage and I need a LOT more surface space. I've been considering just buying cheap solid door stock for the tables since I need something fairly flat. 4x8 plywood or particle board is around $25/ea here in Southern Cali. and I started looking into formica sheeting to be the surface for a cheaper material and still wound up spending a lot more. Simply put, I need about 25-35 feet of work surface at 3 feet deep!

honestly.. i dont know.. i'd estimate i have about $300-$400 in materials for the desk.. probably about $1000 into the entire room.. home depot is just 5min from the house.. and i like to call it my 2nd home..

well, I wish i had more to show.. but i don't..

basiclly what i did was remove my make shift shelves.. and i finished my drywall work.. mudding sanding.. and putting up a coat of primer over it..

I'm going to now cover the entire wall in black chalkboard paint.. same as the portion of my wall near the cable modem.. anyways.. the pics

You make the star trek door yet?

having a hard time.. finding the time to finish the room let alone the "finishing touchs"

Let me know if ya need help on the pnuematics for the star trek door...........couple of cylinders wouldn't be squat to make ........for that matter a pair of spring loaded Bimba's probably would be uber cheap.........just enough stoke to open the door with a timer to hold it open........and when pressure is removed from from them they will auto close.

anything new?

well its painted black in chaulkboard paint.. i'll write a big [H] on it and take a pic :)

i'm still trying to figure out what kind of shelving i want.. i'm leaning on the wire type that comes in closets, will help keep things dust free and let me run wires thru it... problem is I think it looks rather cheap and I want something really industrial, like a big steal rack

ya.. i'll keep that in mind.. getting the door to open like that would be one of the last things i do.. i still need to put in proper lighting and finish my closet/ceiling

another thing is i would have to recontruct the door to be able to get it inside the wall.. i didnt build it like that..

but maybe i could have it split in half and automaticlly open like a supermarket door

I have always been a fan of 19" racks. I will probably get one once I have a house.

Probably 4 cans of primer and 6 cans of black paint would make one of those look very sweet.

I was wondering the say thing, because 100+ bucks isn't bad at all. I couldn't tell if you get one or both though.

EDIT - okay i think i see now, 1 for 130.

Words cannot explain the greatness of this mod, lanparties at your house would be fucking godly

I bow to your greatness

dude, i just saw something you missed. SPEAKERS. you gotta wire up that whole room for 6.1 speakers. make it good, use outlets and stuff so you can upgrade later.

dont tape & float the walls. Just buy some sheets of laminate like this: http://www.formica.com/colorchipdetails.jsp?chip_id=299
d4744d.jpg
and put them up over the raw sheet rock. That would be sweet! :) Aluminum... debossed

or the fake diamond plate stuff

Its thin aluminum... I've worked with it before on this granite desktop with all brushed aluminum (laminate covered) draws underneath.

mmmm i think thats exactly what i want... wonder what shipping on something like that would be

Depending on where you live anywhere from $150-300 for LTL truck freight collect, plus if you don't have a loading dock you would have to pay a liftgate fee as well.

If you live close, then a U-Haul and some friends is all you need :D

You could break those things down and throw one in a car. This thread made it on the front page. Congrats.

Na, i think there will be alot of ppl back to check on the progress of your work. Btw, i like it alot. My motto in life is mod everything to make it suit me, that statment can be taken to many areas. OUTSTANDING JOB, and thank you for sharing it with the rest of us [H]ers.

thanks guys.. been busting my ass working on it.. i got some black paint today and I'm gonna take care of that plywood look tommrow..

I also got chaulk board paint.. and I'm going to cover a wall in it.. so i can write on it :D

Personally I would skip the chalk board pain and buy some of the high gloss 1/4" white board material they also sell and use that and some dry erase markers.

Our HomeDespot has the 4'x8' sheets of the stuff for $11.55 We bought 4 sheets of the stuff for work and now the developers have 4'x16' whiteboard in their area for working out ideas and the testing lab has one sheet and I have the other (I'm Tech support and sys/net admin). Buy yourself a box of drywall anchors and screws and some "finish washers" and screw them right into the wall.

Less dust == good.

Before I moved, I did my whole basement in that high gloss wallboard. Though, I used the "Value High Gloss Wallboard" at about $6 per 8x4 sheet since the hight of the basement was about 8 feet. What was even cooler is that you can get small strips to hold it in place between boards.

I like the idea. but i also like the contrast that the black makes.. as far as the dust as you can see in the pics its a little late for that.. i all ready mudded and sanded it and its painted..

wanted to take some pics to freshen up the thread.. but got home to late.. oh well..

i figured out what todo with the shelving in my closet and its going to be a process.. dont want to spoil any fun.. so i'll wait till i get the materials together before i share.. :)

/me drools

waiting semi-patiently for the next batch of pics

I was planning on doing something similar at my last house, but I moved and this house already has a completely finished basement apartment. I start college in a week, so I will be stuck in a dorm, with no modding possible, for at least the first year.

Oh well, hopefully I'll get the chance to to something similar somewhere down the line.

Keep up the good work.

Can you actually sit two people back to back near the window? Is this room one to two users?
