Work at EB?

So it's not all that bad, just the usual stuff you run into when you work retail. God if you want to talk pressure sales, waaaay back in the day there was a hip clothing store called "Merry Go Round" where they practically assaulted you when you came in.

Lol I remember that store and those SKIDZ pants haha

"Hi, thanks for calling EB where you can trade in your old games and reserve King Kong for the Xbox 360 TODAY...how can I help you?"
"Have you RESERVED it?"
"You need to PRE-BUY that!"
"...this game has over 400 gameplay hours, so you'll DEFINITELY need the hint guide from Brady. I'll include that for only $14 more" (*begin ringing it up automatically*)
"If you plan on getting the PS3, you'll NEED to get a PSP as the PS3's functionality is LOST without one"
"...and for only $5 more we'll replace this game if it gets scratched or damaged in the next year. I'll just add that in for you..." "...um, well if you don't get that protection, you'll have to send it back to the game creator and you might not ever see your game again...yeah, that's it....buy it, please, my job is riding on this!"
"...you want that used copy of Condemned? You can pay $30, or you can trade in 14 of you own games & get it FREE!"

O M F G !! hahahahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa changed my mind this wins post of the year!

"Hi, thanks for calling EB where you can trade in your old games and reserve King Kong for the Xbox 360 TODAY...how can I help you?" Ever notice that they market the stupidest games of all time.. Lets not sell the popular ones and instead sell the games that suck monkey balls.

"If you plan on getting the PS3, you'll NEED to get a PSP as the PS3's functionality is LOST without one" Our manager was the king of suckering old ladies. They would come in looking for a "nintendo super playstation video game" for their grandkid's birthday and would leave with a gamecube, 4 wireless controllers, 5 or so games, 3 memory cards, DDR pad and strategy guides for all the games. Telemarketer scam < Eb Sales.

"...and for only $5 more we'll replace this game if it gets scratched or damaged in the next year. I'll just add that in for you..." Yup.. You can turn the game back in and get some store credit so you can buy another fucked up game. On the other hand, people who bought a ps2 warranty were breaking their old ps2's on purpose so they could get a free brand new slim one right before their 2 year warranty was up.. smart people. EB on the other hand took these obviously busted ps2's and made us stuff them in boxes and resell them as used for a $30 discount off of a new one.

"...um, well if you don't get that protection, you'll have to send it back to the game creator and you might not ever see your game again...yeah, that's it....buy it, please, my job is riding on this!" This and preorders.. I worked there when we Halo 2 and Wow was coming out so it wasn't much of a problem.. the only problem we had was we had 600 or so preorders for halo2 and only about 200 copies. When you pre-order something at gamestop/eb it just means that you eventually will get a copy, it doesn't mean shit as for as release date.

"...you want that used copy of Condemned? You can pay $30, or you can trade in 14 of you own games & get it FREE!" - Thats still a good deal for EB. MOST games that are over 2 months old only fetch $1. If we had a lot in stock, we would give you .50.

I added my commentary

That's because the truly good games will sell themselves.

It's true, but in the case of EB, they'll get in a BOATLOAD of on-the-shelf copies of some random ass movie game that'll be in their bargain bin in 9 weeks. At the same time, they'll mysteriously only get in just enough copies of NWN:2 (sequel to one of the best selling and award winning PC games in the last 5 years) to cover 12 pre-pays? Ummmm?

Yeah indeed...employees at EBgames are misemployed..they may do a good job at there job... but they have no knowledge of PC games whatso ever....Recently i started working there and one man i work with Had the nerve to tell me that PC gaming was a dying breed... He then opted to tell customers not to Play fear over Gears of War2... considering he never played Fear before

I try to avoid going there. It used to be ok, but now it's just annoying. About a year ago there were cool people working at my local Gamestop, but they all quit. Every time I walk in the door they say "got any trade ins for us today?" Both EB and GS have gotten extremely mainstream. I mean the PC Gamer self has about 4 games, 2 of the PC games are copies of WOW. Another thing they are doing to become more mainstream is getting rid of any games that came out before PS2. So they basically have the selection of a Walmart. I like it when they carried Dreamcast, NES, SNES, and Genesis. The N64 and PS1 games are almost gone as well.

You ask an EB employee about a game you'll get a response like "I haven't actually played that but if you get a GameInformer card..............."

I was having a conversation with an EB employee once and we started talking about HL2. He asked me if I finished it. I said "Yeah now I'm just playing some of the mods." He responded with "What's a mod?"

I swear I must live in another dimension from you guys because my local Gamestop is really nothing like this. Yes, they ask if I want to pre-order anything as I'm getting rung up, but when I say no, they drop it. The 3-4 people that work there actually know games and have no problem letting people know if the hot game of the month actually sucks. I've seen one of them talk a young customer out of buying a crappy game that he likely wouldn't like. I've had times where I've brought a game up to buy, and they'll check to see if they have a used copy at half-price and then open and verify that it's complete and in good condition before selling it and saving me money. I've never had them start to pre-ring up a strat guide. They ask if I want to say 20% and buy it bundled, but again when I say no, they don't push it. I've never had them ask if I wanted to trade in games, and when I did ask about what they pay for Gamecubes ($25) the manager actually said "In all honesty, you'll be better off Ebaying it." The guys working there have been there for almost 2 years, so it's not like the store is doing poorly and they're just trying to get out with these comments, they seem to want to supply actual customer service, rather than just spew forth the corporate BS. So, my gamestop is actually a fairly decent place to shop, too bad it sounds like the rest of them suck.

that's similar to my eb I can't complain they give me good trade-in prices eg. $20 aud for burnout revenge that I coulda sworn was used when I bought it for $70 and this is a year afterwards. The only problem is that since I don't have a console I can't trade in my games which isn't that big of a deal since they're cheaper than console games :)

The issue I have with the EB / Gamestop preorder policy is the fact that they only send enough games to stores to fulfill preorders. They do this deliberately to force people into preordering games if they want to get them on launch day.

And yet all they accomplished was causing me to never shop at EB again. Seriously, the last game, and the trip that was the last straw, I bought there was quake 4. I got the typical "you should have pre-ordered" bullshit, so now I shop at Fry's. Fry's is 45 minutes away, but who cares, I'm voting with my wallet.
