Ok so im a first time overclocker, i read the how-to guide above on the sticky. Also my uncle was over and hes really really good with computers and he told me i really only needed to raise my frequency.
So i found that my CPU (4500) over clocks like this: 11.0x200=2.2ghz which is stock speed. So i decided not to good to big and started at 2.5ghz (11.0x230) so when i saved and exited the bios nothing happened. A black screen just stayed there and i think i heard it restarting a couple times, so i thought that wasnt right and set it back to normal.

I have a ECS P4M900T-M motherboard by the way.

specs plz

its a pretty big jump from the factory settings, especially if its an AMD cpu

oops, i ment E4500 not 4500, my bad

PSU: Thermaltake Purepower 500W
CPU: Intel C2D E4500 (2.2ghz) with Coolermater GeminII
RAM: 2gb patriot extreme 667
GPU: Diamond 3870 w\ Accelero S1.

i think those are the only things that matter with Ocing.

What motherboard?

What motherboard?

He said he has a ECS P4M900T-M in his first post, and honestly I don't think you could've picked a cheaper mobo to O/C with. We will need to know more info tho, are you running your memory linked 1:1? What voltage are you trying? Have you increased other things like your memory voltage or northbridge voltage? Overclocking is a delicate process that requires a lot of trial and error and we will need to know a lot more before we can help.

Considering that board runs on a VIA chipset, I wouldn't expect it to overclock much, if at all. Try increasing the FSB in smaller increments starting from 200, and if you're unable to overclock at all then you'll probably need to replace your motherboard with a better one in order to do so.

Yeh it is a really cheap motherboard. At the time i had $50 and needed a new one and this one meets my needs. my memory is in the same channel so i guess its 1:1. Im using stock voltage on everything, because my uncle told me i should be able to oc without changing it, and i wasnt comfortable changing it without knowing how much because i know that if you increase it too much it decreases the life of it a lot.
