my data dump PC is getting loud and starting to tick me off.
so ive decided to drop as little cash on it as possible to keep it running.
its a AMD 1600+ with a stock AMD cooler on it.
that fan is getting extermely loud and i want to switch it out with another 60mm fan or maybe a 60 to 80mm adapter and a 80mm fan.

so ive found what i like.

the adapter - http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/fa6080-uvblu.html
and i cant decide which fan to get.

A vantec Stealth - http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/8027cfm210db.html
a Cooler Master - http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/80comaneledc3.html

if worst comes to worst ill stick a 60mm vantec stealth on it - http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/60vanstealfa.html

the 60mm has soo much less airflow that its sad. when i think about it the adapter will block out some of the airflow as well, but at least it will still push more then the 60mm fan right?

before this idea i was thinking of getting a zalman 7000 series cooler for it, but then i would have to take the mobo out and take the HSF off and i rather not.
i dont care about the color of the items or if they glow, since this case is a biege steel box with no window.

please give me some ideas on how to silence this box.

Peal the sticker on the back of the fan off enough to expoze the little hole. Put 3 drops of engine oil (or something better like a Molebdenum Disulphide additive) in the hole and stick the sticker back. Cost 0$$! :D

You can also rubber mount the fan so that it does not transfere vibes int the HS. Double sided tape works well.
:)

i have WD40 will that work? heck, ill give it a shot tonight. if it works, you have saved me 10 bux. :p

80mm fan adapter +smartfan II using the thermal probe that comes with the fan to regulate the speed.

wd-40 works great on cheap case fans, but you have to make sure if there's any dirt in there with the 'axle' of the fan that it gets cleaned out first. compressed air works great for that.

ya, thanks. iam gonna try your idea out tonight and will post my findings. i think i have to get a PCI slot fan for it anyways, its just way too hot inside the case.

well the WD40 idea didnt work. it made the fan quiet'er and got rid of that stupid ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ sound at least. so i figure ill order that thermaltake fan and the adapter and a few other small things.

EDIT: i found this on svc http://www.svc.com/fsc-190-42.html i have a AMR slot before the AGP slot so i figure i would stick this there. and turn the fan on the back into a suction fan and have this suck the air out, sort of creating a L shaped air flow system.
