Women and case modding=$$$$$

My wife is driving me crazy. She is getting a lian li V2100 case ready for a yonah merom system. She modded in a side window. using a fire breathing dragon lazer cut onto a stainless steal oval 19" long x 13" . The fire that the dragon blows has a 4 1/2" cirlcle were she installed a UV red 120mm fan .

I have to admitt she has done a very professional job.

The other day I recieved a package from Koolance with this in it. I didn't order she did.

So I look it over and say thats cool . But I said that is an aluminium rad. which could cause problems and she says don't worry I got it covered.

Next day I recieve another package I didn't order. This time there's a PA 120-3 rad. Now this confused me as I have these on the shelf. So I ask her about it . She said I ordered it for my new system. So now I am really confused and said your going to have 2 large rads? She says no I am taking the koolance rad out of its housing and installing the PA120-3 rad in its housing. So I said you paid $130 for the koolance rad and all you wanted was the housing? Her really Yep. I hold head in hands. I said it won't fit she said I will make it fit. I got to admitt she did make it fit and it looks great . BUT THIS is her cost already

1). V2100 Lian Li case/ $310

2) Stainless steal fire breathing Dragon lazer cut. 1 of 10 I had cut. Only ones on the planet like these. COST $72.00

3).Koolance housing $130.00

4) Pa 120-3 Rad $120.

5) Custom powder coated white paint job. $210

6) Air brush art on rightside panel $350.

7) Custom powder coated clear coat $ $210.

It does look fantastic BUT this is her cost right now.

$1400 and this is the case only. I will post pics when its complete. I am very proud of the work she has done its very professional. The theme she is using is Wonderful even though its my Dragon design . She did however come up with the idea of using the UV red 120mm fan where the fire comes out of mouth. Kicks self in ass for not figuring that out himself. All in all its a beautiful case But $1400 thats just crazy expensive.

I really don't mind. The only thing that really bothers me is that I didn't think she could do this type of craft womenship. Married 33 years and I didn't know thats pretty bad. I asked her were in the hell she learned this stuff. She said from watching you. Did I say she is very smart and smooth. Actually though I guess I am very lucky. Me and my son race Modified dirt race cars together. Its a family thing. Myself ,wife a daughter are into gaming PC's. I also discovered that she may have a better understanding of PC case theme's than I do . So that should be a plus for us. 55 years old and still learning

My wife and daughter do pretty good ar Html web pages. They tried to teach me but I thought it was a waste of time . I bought myself a copy of Front Page. and some other programms to do Flash animations. Both the college babes are now using front page because its so easy.

After posting this last night I was admiring her case and decided I would do some modding of the same case style of my own . I started today on it. When I am done . I will post pics of both setups and you guys can vote on who did a cooler modding job.

I decided the theme I will use will be my laser cut Water wheel theme. using 2 PA160's and I will also use airbrush art. I really like her white case and I believe that will be what I use also. I am still tring to figure out how to mount the 2 rads.But its going to have to be good to compare with what she did with her PA120-3. My case will be for sale however hers won't be.

True that . As you may know or not. I am an Intel ATI fan. With the recent price cuts and the Conroe prices published. The name sticks.

oh, and my girlfriend hates computers and doesn't understand my obsession (and it officially is an obsession at this point). i'm gonna be a lawyer in three years and pretty much the only reason i want to do it is so i have enough money for supreme computer parts. i so wish i went into engineering instead of biology. :p
 
You got to get her interested in PC's . Does she like gaming. or web design.

What you do with your life should not come down to $$$$$ it helps . Do what you love and enjoy be happy your young . I sure don't want a lawyer or a doctor working for me if they did because of $$$$ . I think dedicating your life work to something you don't love = I CAN'T GET NO SATISFACTION. Find a partner who share's your interest.= Long life together. Not perfect but still good.
 
I have lost more than one girl over my computers and my cars. They just dont understand that I had a life before them and didnt sit around waiting for them to come along. No worries though because I always seem to find the next one that last a couple of weeks.

If I found a lady that was into modding and pc's I be like "Hey there, how are things?" I did have a girl that could kick my ass playing Halo on xbox though....and she was hot.

Anyways, tell your wife we need to se pics of this crazy contraption she is building!
 
She won't let me post pics until the PC. is complete. On Off topic she use to love posting in the forums under the Intelia name and she held her own in debates . But she turned against the forums because of the AT forum and its horriable bias mods. She likes game and web page development more than I so She spends time doing that She also thinks I should stay away from the forums as she believes they have nothing more to offer us in the way of knowledge But i love a good debate right or wrong as long as it doesn't degrade to name calling . .

When it comes to my relationship with my wife I have always been a man. She didn't go behind my back . She just did what she wanted to. I don't tell here I am buying new cam or heads for the race car. She did however ask me not to post pics tell she had completed her work. The outside is complete and its very nice. But she steal has much to do on the inside. As she has opted to use dual pumps with dual manifolds. I think that waiting is worth while as my water cooling setup with manifolds is a work of art in its own right . She wants to show a completed system . That is beautiful inside as well as outside. After 33 years people become much alike . Half assed doesn't cut it in our world. She just corrected me 34 years plus 6 years of going together. Time flies when your having fun

Why do I get the idea that sellers dominate this water cooled forum????. Any one have links to real world test comparing all the differances between water blocks under heavy load using the same pump and rad setup on all. 1c to 5cdifferance isn't a big deal. If you can keep all your components under 40C I say you have A winner no matter who the manufactors is or the tube size. But looks now thats another story.

Well when we orginally planned our upgrades her PC was going to be less than mine and I was going to use chiller on my settup . Now its no chillers. (Cost $$$) . And she was going to just cool the the cpu and gpu. She now wants a yonah merom settup with everthing water cooled. The effiency of merom / Conroe has changed our plains a bit.

My build got cheaper (no chiller) hers got more expensive ( water cool everthing) both will use XF . which as far as i am concerned requires the pc power and cooling 1000 watt PS. Basicly if it can go inside a pc its going to be in their. She has made her decision on merom setup. My settup is still waiting on final . I may go workstation with Dual dual cores with FBdimms. These will be our last personnel builds other than mior upgrades we will do.
 
hey, thanks a lot for the interesting read. ladies do silly things with money sometimes (of course, so do guys, but somewhat less often i've noticed :p ), but if it's a hobby she's passionate about and yall can afford to do it, then who cares? it's worth it for the personal satisfaction. :)



i'd love to see the pictures of this completed job; i'll be checking back on this thread.

What is second nature to guys is totally foreign to girls. And vice versa. Like me obsessing over Innovatek parts at school and girls thinking that I'm some socially awkward weirdo, and me thinking the same about them when they where rather revealing clothing.

I definitely want to see how this turns out as well. Hopefully the money is well-spent in that the case looks fantastic :p.
