Wolfenstein

Oh yeah, and regenerating health. It's a fad that needs to die IMO. Takes all the challenge away.

Plus it was fun eating food in Wolf to get your health back :p

Theres a very valid point here... it dawned on me as I was opening cupboards while being shot at, because I didn't want to go kill then have to come back to search... but knew I could just hide for a few second to be fine...

One thing I noticed that I'll give RTCW the nod over this one is this: Stealth.

In RTCW you had some missions where you really needed to be quiet and it was effective.

In this game, trying to be stealthy is pretty much pointless.

Yeah, one of my favorite parts of RTCW was sneaking up on the drunk German soldier and knifing him in the ass! Ahhhhh, the memories......:p

And that silent sniper rifle you get with the night vision. I forget what it's called but you basically acquire it during one of the stealth missions.

I used that thing all the time. Loved it!

The "Snooper". Designed for "wet work". lol :D

In the new game I'd have to say I love a fully modded MP43 complete with tactical scope. VERY satisfying to use.

Prices are down to as low as $29 - $36 on Amazon. I might bite when we see prices in the $20 - $25 range... maybe even lower. Might not take as long as I thought. ;)

Especially when used together with the "empower" ability fully maxed out.

Just finished the game. Verdict - wunderbar!

Even at those current prices you're getting a pretty darned good single player experience. You could do a lot worse for a lot more very easily.

Is it just me,or have they dropped the ball in publicizing the game?Given the place the franchise has in gaming history,I expected a lot more fanfare for its release.

No, you're right they barely publicized it at all.

Id sold out to Zenimax a month or two before release, and the publisher for Wolfenstein, Activision also backs CoD, with a new installment coming in a few months, so they didn't have much incentive to help Wolf sell well.

Also IMO, Id was not happy with the quality of the final product, so they let it fly under the radar. Whoever said they delayed launch until after Quake Con so they wouldn't have to hear shit from the fans, was dead on IMO.

I've played 30 minutes of the SP game. I found it mediocre and lacking quality. It doesn't feel like a Wolf or Id franchised game. The MP is an abortion. Disappointing, cause I was a huge RTCW/Wolf ET player. I'd be outright pissed if I'd paid $50-60 for this game.

I, too, am a huge RTCW fan. Give the game more of a chance. I didn't like it when i started out either, it definitely has some shortcomings. But once you actually get into the "meat" of the story, it gets better. I paid $50 for it, and have played it all the way through, and while it is no RTCW, it was fun on it's own merits.

Most of those complainers, are praising Valve for using their 4-5 year old engine (Source Engine), in their most recent games :p

The argument goes something like this:

It uses id Tech 4 (Doom 3 engine):
Complainer: "Booooo! That's old!!!"
But it scales nicely with even low-end machines:
Complainer: "But graphics suck!!"
You can always use the highest settings, resolution and AA levels:
Complainer: "Yeah, but the game will choke to death. That can only mean that it's poorly coded"
But isn't gameplay more important than graphics anyway ?:
Complainer: "Yes, but only in the games we choose it to be."

LOL - This bears repeated quoting.

The game does have its flaws but overall it's pretty decent. I do think that MP could use some polishing. The SP is very nice looking, though. Maybe, with a few patches, all the kinks will be worked out.

The game was finally released in my country and I picked it up yesterday. Played it for a couple of hours and I must say that I really don't understand the complaints...

First of all, the graphics are very good. Not groundbreaking, but very good. Better than most games out not too long ago (the only exception being...Crysis).
Second, the game itself is pretty damn fun. The combination of upgrading weapons with veil powers, plus the fact that we advance through selectable objectives, is an extremely good concept. It has a linear progression, as any other game for that matter, but we have some freedom of choice. Overall, a good game that is somehow being extremely underrated...

I was also pleasantly surprised to see the price. Most games retail at 50-60 euros (60 euros being a special edition of some sort). But the last two games I bought at launch (Wolfenstein and Street Fighter 4) cost "only" 39.90 euros...Low prices, for good games...Good times :)

Price has been dropping like a stone on the PC version. I'm trying to remember the last time I watched a new game drop in price as fast as this thing has.

At the rate it's going, I can easily commend this game for a purchase just for the single player alone. If you don't like $35 or wherever it's at now, in another couple of weeks it'll probably be $29.99.

A no brainer at prices like that IMO.

As low as $25 (new, sealed) + $4 shipping on eBay. I'm waiting to see if it drops to $25 shipped (or even lower) 'cuz I'm a cheap bastard!!! :D

Amazing. That has to be some kind of speed record for a price drop on a new game.

They needed to. After they realized their multiplayer sucked ass, they were left with no choice but to drop the price.

Population speaks for itself.

After getting further into the game,I have to admit I'm getting a bit tired of Isenstadt. There's a sameness to the whole environment of the game, restricting the action to a single town may have been a mistake. It just doesn't have the "epic" feel to it that RTCW had.

Just finished it....very disappointing. Even the action (which is supposed to be an id Software staple) was very stale after a short time. The boss battles were boring and predictable, while the ham-fisted story and voice-acting became grating (though at first it's almost fun...). To be very honest, I would recommend to stay away until this is $20 or less, and even so only if you're begging for something to play.

I liked the game enough after a few hours (past the farm), but, the voices, oh lord.

The grating, and in some cases poorly done, german accents wore on me about an hour into the game. I've relegated this after renting it to a 14.99 or less used purchase from the big used gamefly sale (most likely just after the first of the year), just to finish it.

For what it's worth I hated the way BJ looked in this game. Something wrong with the head...

I think once you pay full price for a game like this, you feel obligated to complete it no matter how horrifying it is. I'm so disappointed.

It certainly didn't live up to RTCW by I certainly have played worse and paid full price for far worse.

At first, I thought the SP was kind of bland but after sticking with it for a hour or so, I am truly enjoying it. I've got some serious upgrades on my guns and veil and I'm having a blast killings enemies in slo mo!

It's kind of fun to play it with the cheat menus and having all the weapons and abilities maxed right from the get-go. That's what I'm doing on my very casual replay. You don't have to bother looking for anything since you obviously have it all upfront to begin with. That takes some of the tedium out of the way and you can just get down to business.

Full Empower + Fully tricked out MP43 with Tac scope is insanely satisfying.

I agree, but I think things are made worse when they come from such legendary shops like id. Oh well....here's to Rage not sucking this hard.

I'm enjoying it. I just downed General Zetta, so I'm about 50% through. It's a nice looking game and it's good mindless fun. Maybe not worth $50, but I'd say it's worth at least $30.

Yeah.

I'm not really clear on how much actually came from Raven and what all actually game from id.

I don't think id's role is anything more than high-level supervision to make sure their IP is taken care of, plus tech support for the engine. I doubt they had anyone creating content, writing code or anything like that.

Just finished the game, and I have to say I'm disappointed.Putting aside the graphics, the gameplay was too repetitious, take out all the running around the same town areas between missions and it was way too short.Maybe it was a mistake to go to this game right after playing Crysis and Warhead, but it doesn't even measure up to RTCW in my opinion.

I don't think they did a very good job.

I really can't imagine id personnel being real happy today about this game, all told.

I doubt they had anyone creating content, writing code or anything like that.

One can only hope.

Love it so far but how do you get on the rooftops? I'm supposed to be able to travel in the sewers (got that already) and the rooftops but I have no idea where you go to get access to the roof?
