Wolfenstein

alot like call of duty in what way?

I've played every wolfenstein game spear of destiny wolfenstein 3d, rtcw and now wolfenstein. and played call of duty and call of duty 2.

i'm nostalgic my first gaming system was a commodore 64 at the age of 6 lol

It uses CoD2 esque stars and compass for objectives. The grenade indicator is similar, the health regen and even the "you're wounded, get to cover." is in there. It feels alot like CoD1/2.

CoD1/2? Holy shit I may have to get this game...

Health system is almost a carbon copy of COD. imho

I am positive about the game and liking it however, this is the one thing that I wish they had kept the same. They could have made it where you buy health packs from the black market dudes plus what you find laying around.........anything but the abortion that is the COD health system.

Also, if you want a challenge, play on the hardest setting. The first three are the same it seems like.

Even on hardest it is not much of a challenge due to regen. The only upgrades I purchased up until the last level (no reason to let my ~$40000 go to waste) were for the Kar98k. I didn't even purchase ammo for the other guns.

just got done playing MP for a bit...it is indeed shit. i've played SP for about an hour and it's mediocre. i'd wait on this one until it's $20, which shouldn't take long.

I absolutely LOVED RTCW, but this one is a bit of a letdown so far. The graphics look to be from a game about 2 years old (running 1920x1200 all settings maxed). Unfortunately this seems to be the case because it was built with consoles in mind and they had to make it run well on all platforms. The "mouse look" is hokey as well. I've played about 30 minutes of it and it is kinda fun, but not nearly what I was hoping for. Perhaps I'll sing a different tune once I've played a bit more, but right now I'ld give it a 6.5/10.

OK, doing the cardinal sin of replying to my own post....

I've played a bit more and now I'm really digging this game. It seems the very first level is the worst in terms of visuals (IMO), it's just very "blah". It's still not a Crysis killer by any means, but as you progress the visuals do get better. The gameplay has picked quite a bit as well. Don't wanna give anything away, but it does get much cooler. We're up to a 7.5 - 8.0 out of 10 - though I don't anticipate it going any higher.

Honestly, its kind of fun. Yeah the graphics look really old, feels like a game from 2003 or 2004, but the aiming and shooting is solid, which is always a plus and usually something thats a serious problem in ports.

do the weapons sound good?? in fact how is the audio for the entire game?

Yeah, I've heard that and just started playing so I have hopes but honestly I LOVE BASIC SHOOTERS! Aim and fire and kill is all I need and this has PLENTY of that. Thanks for the heads up!:)

I think I'll pass on this one. Why such shitty games following this CoDesque trend?

:(

CoD1 was good. CoD2 wanted to be a re-skinned CoD1... CoD3 = NO!

CoD4 = fun, because it was closer to modern-times.

But, really... games now are just kind of hack jobs fitting what's "IN".

Are there even monsters or nazi super-humans in Wolfenstein 2k9?

the guns arent as bad as Doom 3 are they?

Nah, the gun sound effects really impressed me. They are significantly better than any Call of Duty.

You won't find any of your wimpy Doom 3 weapon sounds here.

well that makes me feel a little better then. I just cant stand wimpy sounding guns.

Yeah, same here, and it's one of the many reasons I hated World at War.

The game starts off a little slow but gets much more fun, interesting, and challenging once past 15 or so %. I'm glad it kicks off with the paranormal stuff early on as I can't stand shooters set in the past (any world war game / wild west shooter I've never been able to stay interested in).

The graphics certainly don't detract from the experience - the sound/music, gun feel, shooting, aiming, veil stuff are great.

I just have to sit back and laugh at all the whining and moaning coming from people who have not only let others decide for them whether or not the game is worth a purchase, but also speak as though they've played the game and come to that conclusion after being forced to spend money..?

Also, I'm not interested in the multiplay so maybe that's why I'm enjoying the game for what it is -- a good SP shooter experience.

I'll give it a shot, when it drops $20 bucks... I took my un-opened copy back to Target today on lunch break. Bonus was this hot chick working customer service that I know through a friend! Honestly though I was expecting a solid multiplayer experience like RTCW/ ET. Only 15-20 hours of single player is not worth my $50 this time around. At least Rage looks promising from the John Carmack interview I watched on gametrailers.com yesterday.

20 dollars is about what it's worth. graphics are 'meh', the sound is pitiful at best. the single player is pretty fun so far though. haven't tried MP.

I'm at 58% completed in about 7 hours, and here is my take...

It's fun if you want old school wolfenstein shooter goodness. Don't expect anything groundbreaking or amazing. The graphics are actually decent...its no crysis but its not "bland" either. The graphics don't actually get interesting until you start chasing around zombified/supernatural nazis.

As for gameplay...well hell, its plain old go here, shoot through 200 bad guys, come back, get your next mission, and that's about it. You get to upgrade your weapons with gold you collect in random spots and from the 1k gold per mission reward. The rewards are pretty weak and pointless really, you can upgrade the Mp44 (Mp43 in the game I think) and complete everything. You have the veil powers which are kind of silly but necessary in boss fights.

Now that I'm going up against flying baddies and super bosses, I'm starting to feel kind of sick of it, it was fun to shoot everything with a burst and get an easy win. What the hell was with the uber insect flying boss coming back on the bridge? Its getting to the point now where I know I will fight through corridor after corridor and end up at a boss and just rinse and repeat.

That being said its entertaining, but a 50-60 dollar title...well...not really.

Hell, I'm going to go kill some more Nazis ;)

I agree. I think the gameplay is great. The graphics may not be top of the line but it still is pretty good in this game. Besides, graphics and AA do not make a game- it's the gameplay that matters most and grahics second.

Just beat it. Took me about 6 hours (i didnt do everything). The final boss battle can burn in hell.

yeah the final boss battle sucks serious ass. I dont know what they were thinking.

If I hear "Stop hiding, you coward" one more time, I'm going to drop fire bombs on the Raven offices.

Lame.

That's pretty good to see some signs of support this soon after the game's release, even with the MP crew having been fired on the day of the game's release.

There is some hope here, folks. :)

The sound is good, but not great. Weapon fire has more base to it than most games, but lacks that 'metallic' sound that COD2 and COD4 had. IMO those games have better overall weapon sounds. Nothing beats SOCOM:Confrontation on the PS3 though when it comes to weapon sounds. :)

I'm in it for the single player, picking it up during lunch. Sounds decent enough to keep my attention for a while.

Let's move away from CoD, this is WOLFENSTEIN!

From reading in this read, it sounds like a really weak game. :(

I've played more of the single player, i still like the single player though. it's wolfesque still.. nothing much changed in that area other than the iron sights and regen health... i'm fine with that... and i think it looks pretty good even at 1680x1050. i'm not expecting crysis graphics... from my past with rtcw my biggest let down is still the multiplayer... had the multiplayer been as sharp as rtcw's it would have been the icing on the cake for a great game...

Bleh, waste of money :(.

Story is okay, but the whole granade throwing thing is just way off to me. Add crappy graphics and weird UI with a ton of confinement = pass :(.

I loved the original Wolfenstein, loved RTCW but this game is definitely going to be a bargin bin pick-up for me.

It definitely doesn't feel like a true Wolfenstein game, but that's not keeping me from enjoying it now. It sort of feels like Medal of Honor Airborne in the way it plays, which is a good thing because I enjoyed the heck out of Airborne. I love the weapon upgrades too. The veil abilities sort of make it feel like Crysis with the different augmented abilities and such.

All in all, once I accepted that this wasn't the traditional linear blast em up Wolfenstein game, I started to enjoy it.

Those are my thoughts on single player at least. Haven't tried multiplayer yet. From what I've read though, they really screwed up on that part...

The whole exploring Isenstadt and meeting contacts for missions makes it feel a lot different than RTCW did. At least for me it does... Not only that, but BJ actually talks in this game...I'm used to him being a mute... I hated it when the console versions of RTCW gave him a voice. :(
