Wolfenstein

In closing, id should be more careful with its intellectual property.
I think they've already realized this. Todd Hollenshead said the the next Wolfenstein and Quake are going to be developed entirely in-house. id's going to use their partners for smaller projects like retro and iPhone ports.

Tim Willits is a good designer, and he's heading up Rage. Kevin Cloud's been with id since the very beginning, and Doom 4's his baby. I don't think we can expect the Same Old Shit from id anymore.

Well why didn't they do this in the first place? what a bunch of dumbasses making these decisions. Now they've pissed of the PC gaming community, how can we trust them..

The team wasn't big enough to simultaneously work on multiple AAA titles. If they say the next Wolf and Quake will be done in house, that's fine.

But we won't see either until next console generation. If we don't count ET, it took them 8 years to release a sequel to RTCW. We'll be lucky to get the next Wolf installment within 5 years.
They should've done something like BF1943 for Wolfenstein MP.

I find it funny that people seem surprised the game is not that good.

No reviews prior to release = they know it sucks and want it being bought before the reviews show it to be a typical FPS with little to no evolution to the genre.

And ya wonder why id Software delayed the game two weeks from its original early August date ? Because they didn't want to be yelled at Quakecon with gamers freaking on them for such a craptastic poor title.

Heh there's more truth to this statement than anyone knows.

Also kinda funny about that whole, "if it outsells Madden 10, it's free!" ya riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

Sounds like you downloaded the pirated version...

So if I set "Language for non-Unicode programs' in my Regional and Language options to 'Russian (Cyrillic)" it automatically makes me a pirate? I guess I pirated nVidia drivers too, because they install russian localization without even asking me.

Aren't all Russian's software pirates? That explains everything. lolz

Edit: oh snap, just noticed the guy acusing you is "piratepress" hmmmmmmmm?

I came to this thread hoping for some news on when the Steam version is coming out... now it's looking more like Valve is being kind and refusing to sell this at the launch price; or maybe just waiting to release a more patched version. Since this game will be considered single-player-only by all pc users within the next few weeks, it really just doesn't seem right to sell it to people under any false pretenses.

Since I don't buy disk versions of games any more, I still hope it comes out on Steam soon - I'm still really looking forward to the SP campaign. Hopefully the price will drop fairly quickly.

The game looks good at 1920x1080, everything turned up...some of you people are insane

Screenshots anyone? I'd rather see some from actual players here than typical PR crap.

I would blindly bet just about any sum of money with 100 percent confidence on this.

That douche bag Tim W is seeming more and more like a typical slimy salesman. He is all buffed up from working out, and long pretty boy hair. I mean it's cool to be in shape and look good, but not what I expect from one of the best game developers in PC Gaming history. They look too polished now, like they living high off the hog now that they are big shots and don't have to work as hard like they did during the early Quake days.

Well with shitastic games like this new Wolf, they will go out of business soon if they keep up with their shit don't stink attitude.

Because after Quake4, QuakeWars, and now Wolf, their poop really does stink, and bad. They better hit a grand slam with Rage or it's over for them.

But id didn't make Quake 4, Quake Wars or Wolfenstein...

Some people are really struggling to grasp this little tidbit, aren't they?

Just got the game. Is the single player locked at 60 FPS? I have disabled v-synch and its stilled locked.

^^^ Yeah, seems like the lock at 60fps is standard w/ all tech4 games - there's a console command to unlock it - don't remember what that is atm.

Did Doom3 have AA?? I totally can't remember all of a sudden. Seems really odd that it would have been left out since it's been there up 'till this point. I'm sure there should be a fix for this soon.

I personally loved Quake4, so I still have high hopes for the single-player in the new Wolf. And come to think of it, most of my friends are probably still too hooked on TF2 to ever get them into the multi on this one anyways. So I guess as long as the SP is good, I'll be happy w/ this title. Now if only Steam would debut this game on sale for $30, I think it'd be perfectly balanced.

I know Raven did two of those, but most fans don't care or even know that. They just see Quake and Wolfenstien name and expect it is an id game. They shouldn't have shitty developer working on their titles then, or least make them new IP's. Because it is giving id a bad rep

whao the game looks really fun...

the gunplay has tat oomph of satisfaction to it...

at least from the youtube video!

It's extremely frustrating watching console players trying to play first person shooter game, man I hope they've taken out the rubbish with flashy sparkly guns and objectives in the PC version and that awful weapon select screen.

Most of id's recent engines don't have external tickrates, everything in the game world is calculated per frame, so they lock the frame rate at 60fps for PC games and I think 30fps for some of the console variants.

I don't know. The way I figure it is that for Quake IV, Tim Willits worked hand-in-hand with Raven as EP, and they were able to put out a decent game under his watch. Q4 isn't great, but it at least has that id "spirit".

Coming off of the success of Q4, id likely decided to let Raven do their own thing with minimal interference. This was the result. Now id's realized how big a mistake that was.

It's very strange how much id's been trying to distance itself from this game in the past few months, and it's no wonder Activision was so against spending too much on pre-launch advertising. I guess it all sort of adds up now.

You know what, for 30 bucks I'd take a shot. At 50 bucks they can kiss my ass. I got burned on fear2 on day 1 and we know how monolith shoved it to us with the mp in that game. So ya I'm bothered by this since I was looking foward to this game for a long time. I'm just tired of spending top dollar and feeling like a schmuck for doing so with a pos port with little to no support from the developer for the pc version. I'm sending a message this time with my wallet. I will not buy junk and I will not pirate it either. I encourage those of you who don't buy this to also please not pirate it, as that sends the devs the wrong message. If its not good enough to buy it shouldn't be good enough to steal either.

I saw some threads on their forum about refunds and negativity get deleted. Trying to cover up the bad news like Epic.

this should be stickied at the top of every subforum here. regarding piracy, i agree with you 100%.

I absolutely LOVED RTCW, but this one is a bit of a letdown so far. The graphics look to be from a game about 2 years old (running 1920x1200 all settings maxed). Unfortunately this seems to be the case because it was built with consoles in mind and they had to make it run well on all platforms. The "mouse look" is hokey as well. I've played about 30 minutes of it and it is kinda fun, but not nearly what I was hoping for. Perhaps I'll sing a different tune once I've played a bit more, but right now I'ld give it a 6.5/10.

The campaign definitely gets better as the game progresses. In the beginning, it feels very generic since you are only facing one type of enemy and do not have access to the more sci-fi influenced weapons.

I can't believe how poorly this game is running for me, it looks awful too.

I can't even get a solid 60 fps at 1680x1050. Isn't this a Doom 3 engine game? What gives? I was running Quake 4 at 1600x1200 with an AMD 3200+ and 7600GT's and it ran way better than this.

The game's only using like 20% of my CPU too.

Hmm, I remember hearing about this last year, but fell off my radar with other games out there. I was gonna get this on Friday, but given the mixed reviews I'm reading, I might hold off til Black Friday, unless convinced otherwise.

It sounds like the singleplayer is pretty good, but the multiplayer is a letdown; given I did grow up with Wolftenstein 3D, I want to give it a fair shot. No AA for singleplayer but for multiplayer? That has to be a mistake and I hope they put it back. Not a deal killer, but I just find it odd for a modern PC title, that's all.

To be completely honest with you guys I dont understand all the hate for it. It is NOT an amazing game, but its keeping my interest at this point (~5 hours in) which is a lot more than I can say for a lot of other games. It does not feel like "A game made purely to cash in on the name", im pretty sure some people worked pretty hard on this.

was reading thru the comments for that review, found this:

"In my opinion this game deserves at least a 7.5... and based on the review I figured it would get at least that much. The game gets talked up a lot more than it gets talked down, but then scores awfully low. The review seemed accurate enough, but I don't feel the score at the end matches the review."

pretty much sums up my opinion of that review. the game looks like an awesome run and gun game.

edit: also I wish review sites would start using the better version when reviewing games. AKA if its available on the PC, review the PC version.

well people will always have their own opinions on the scores themselves even if they agree on the quality of a game. I personally have never understood why most reviews use a 1-10 scale but treat it as a grading scale. in the workplace a 1-10 scale for a project review or evaluation is just like that of woman being rated 1-10 where 5 is average. I mean why have a 1-10 scale if everything below 7 is considered basically a failure?

Either way it was going to get a low score. Not sure why they let such a big franchise sink.

Hey where would you guys who are playing this game say it sits in relation to say, Quake 4?

Just picked this up tonight from Target, thinking I'll not open it and take it right back there before work tomorrow. Sounds like a disappointment to all true Wolfenstein fans. >.<

The campaign really does get even better as you progress. I just finished the farm mission and now I'm infiltrating some tunnels. The gun play is fun and overall I'm enjoying it. This is the best game in my opinion to come out of Id Tech 4. In my opinion It's better than D3, Q4 and Prey.

There's already a Wolf Pro mod in the works to make the multiplayer more like RTCW.

I say if you really are a Wolf fan than pickup the game up, give it your support and do it with an open mind so we don't see the franchise disappear.

the singleplayer does look fun, cant really judge the graphics, but i dont really care to be honest, anything doom 3 and above looks good enough for me really. I really hope they put out a demo soon.

I think the first thing i do once work picks up and i have some spare cash is pick up a nice 24" 1080p screen and play this game, should be fun :)

I'm not sure why people are saying the game looks bad. It's an EXTREMELY good looking game for the Doom 3 engine. It's a bit better looking than Quake wars and I think the engine holds up nicely.
