Wolfenstein

^^^ sort of the same story here. stuck at work for another few hours, then at the gym for an hour, then i'm watching Big Brother with my gf (yes, i love reality tv...don't you judge me). chances are i won't be playing at all tonight.

Lulz at the don't judge me part. At least you are watching it with your gf. Games are just a hobby, they should never get in the way of the RL.

I just picked this up earlier today. Unfortunately I had some things to do before I could play, it's installing now so I'll post some of my impressions once I've played with it for a little bit. :D

How does the gunplay feel? Is it actually fun to kill nazis here? You'd think that'd always be the case, but devs have a bad habit of fucking up the combat - the number one most important thing in a shooter - these days.

I played Quake IV, I played Prey, and I suffered through Far Cry 2... I've had enough of that shit.

Uhm.... but yeah, seems the single player is excellent here, which makes me happy since that's really all I care about.

+1 single player for me too.

This thread is WORTHLESS without PICs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

went to gamestop to pick it up, but as I forgot they open all of their PC games and keep the boxes and discs seperate. I was like ohh...no thanks since I got screwed by EB games with BF2 and they wouldnt exchange it. The guy at the counter was like its for your protection. whatever walmart is next door, 50 bucks for the PC ed and unopened. Stupid gamestop how I hate you...

Installing now.
-bink

I would post in-game images if I knew which button takes the images. I don't feel like installing fraps just for that.

Wow. It probably took more time to type out this post than it would to:

A. Find the screenshot button in the Control setup area of the game
B. Install FRAPS which is a whopping 965K download

...combined.

Ya cause that's why games are successful.. THE AA....

Air conditioning isn't what makes the Porsche 911 successful, but you'd probably be pretty befuddled if it wasn't a standard fucking option, I think.

ive been reading the wolfenstein forums and not a single person has said anything good about the game. Graphics on single player suck, Multiplayer is worthless and looks like trash and more. Im glad i didnt open the game cause id hate to lose the money.

Of course I looked in the controls menu, as well as tried the print screen button. Anyways, here are some pictures that I got from fraps:

The game does not have a lot of display options. I swear they're only like 5-6 options. There is no AA and only AF.

I'm gonna go play for an hour then i'll report back

Just played a fair bit of the single player campaign and I have to say it's extremely fun. The particle cannon is fucking awesome and the gun play is fun. The only gripe I have is that there's some noticeable mouse accel that makes things a bit shaky at times. It's nothing as bad as far cry or bioshock but it's definitely there. I suspect most people that have never played a game moderately competitively will notice it.

Off to try out some multiplayer now before I head out for the night. So far I'm glad I picked it up.

I also read somewhere that the dev team behind the multiplayer was fired on release.

If that's true, it's really shitty. But maybe they deserve it.

FWIW, ETQW ballistics were still off during the public betas, just months before retail release. And it got fixed by release. So the Wolf MP shooting could possibly be improved. However if Endrant is fired, it sounds like any support for MP is dead. And this game was sent to die.

I wanted to like this game but in the last few months got some bad vibes. The SP still looks worth playing. I generally like Raven's games. I liked Quake 4 SP. But it's hard to justify $50 for a game I can beat in 2-3 days and be done with. I'll probably rent this for PS3.

K, I just played for about 30 mins and it feels exactly like a generic shooter. Kinda of like Call of duty series SP games (which I find to be pretty boring). Enemies just spawning outta nowhere, retarded weapons, just really bland and generic. It just feels like a game I've played a million times. Not really worth it imo.

Meh... I'll be waiting for it to hit Big Lots for 6 bucks, can't say I'm terribly impressed for a 50 dollar game. Looks like more consolized crap to me.

I must agree, the lack of AA support in so many games with the touted "deffered" lighting or whatever is getting old. AA is a major hardware feature in our damned expensive graphics cards and it would be nice to see it used.

I'll Pass...

Yeah, it definitely reeks of some consoleitis.

Unfortunately I'm pretty dry for new games as of late and I'm a sucker for this series so yeah...I ponied up the $45 including shipping and no sales tax thanks to Amazon. Eh, at least I saved a few bucks. I know I've bought worse games than this for $50-$60.

So far on this thread it seems to be mixed, some are liking it some say generic boring shooter. I have not played but still think I'll pick it up. Lack of other games right now and watching my PC sit and do nothing is making me anxious.

I do miss the hype FPS's use to get though aka HL2, Far Cry, Doom 3, and the last big hype of Crysis. Pretty sure those days are over. Have to put most of the blame on the console ports we've been seeing lately. Dumbing down of the graphics on F.E.A.R 2 was very dissapointing and it continues with Wolfy I'm hearing.

And yes, I did hear the multiplayer team got cut in half on the same day of the release, that's not a good sign for those who want to play multi.

So hopefully the near future will supply something for the PC exclusive, but I don't see any coming down the pipe.

installed and now i'm downloading the 1.1 patch. hope to play a little before bed tonight :D

The screen shots above look ok but the jaggies always look worse in motion to me because of the "crawl." I dunno it might be nitpicking but it annoys me.

The developers seem to claim in that interview that it is a "tradeoff" and that the eye candy the deferred rendering brings to the table is worth missing out on anti-aliasing, but I think what they REALLY did was just bug out on out DirectX 10 support which would have enabled both at the same time. It is really pathetic that games like this are not using DirectX 10 at this point. Either the developers feel 1) pc gamers don't care or 2) the install base for DX10 is not big enough.

arkham asylum rocks :D anyway I think i'll cancel my preorder on play.com too, there's no way i'm paying 32 euros for a consolized POS, no elite guard no roast dinner ( health regeneration is for pussies with ADHD ) no nazi zombies ffs, looks kinda cartoonish too, i loved RTCW and ET to death no matter if i was playing wolf 1.0 on mp_beach/mp_ice et-fueldump-beta or RTCW on 1.41 + OSP/ ET 2.56 + etpro.

I'll wait till the multiplayer gets fixed, first quakewars now this, we need a proper rtcw sequel godamnit

So this game is like whacking off with sand paper  I mean it's fun to rope one off and all, but this game just doesn't cut the mustard ?

WTF is up with id Software games lately, I mean seriously WTF id  The last wickedly awesome game they made was Quake ]l[, and Return to Wolf was pretty good too. Doom ]l[ was c+ game at best. Quake 4 blew, QuakeWars bit. And now this crap

Quake 4 blew me like the old lady donw the street, and that wasn't pretty. My fav Quake games were 1 and 2. Quake 2 is an all time classic, and I expected Q4 to be in the same vein, but Ravne made a vanilla and generic lame shooter in my opinion, easily forgotten. Then QuakeWars I was expecting a Battle Field 3 style game, but QW just totally fell short of most peoples expectations and sucked. And Doom ]l[, was ok at best, but totally not even close to the hype machine they sold it as.

And now we get this shitastic game, another run of the mill standard shooter.

With the way it is going on in the official forums, I doubt if multiplayer is going to stay alive for the PC. Usually, if the multiplayer isn't good to begin with, then there is little hope of rebuilding a strong online community. I think UT3 is a recent example of that.

So, as it stands, $50 for a SP game is not worth it when the SP is nothing special, along with it obviously being influenced by its console counterpart. I expected something that would be similar to Painkiller, though not as good, and this is exactly what I got - a mindless shooter. And I agree, regenerating health sucks. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and have yet to face much of a challenge since I can almost always either run from a fight or duck and cover until I regenerate.

Like many games as of late, Wolfenstein will likely be forgotten in a few months.

Consoles man , consoles. Its fuckin sad. I'm still on the ropes about buying this game, I absolutely loved RTCW, I really don't want my memories tarnished. I think I will wait till I can get it for 40 maybe 30 bucks.

The most eagerly single player game I am looking forward too, is not even made by an official game company but a mod. The HalfLie2 mod Black Mesa Source  That game looks so high quality, they been working on it for like 4 years, it just oozes coolness. I bet that game will be one of the best single player games in a long time.

If I was in Iraq I probably wouldn't be as concerned about the AA either. Do you get sufficient internet there to hit up any multiplayer servers?

Depends on what you call sufficient. The internet in our rooms is 1meg down, 256k up split among 11 people. We've got two guys who are addicted to WoW that play on this system. I think their pings sit around 1k. I don't think I'd have much luck with TF2 on our internet. There is a cybercafe on our FOB that has good bandwidth, but it's $5 an hour over there.....no thank you.

The thing I don't understand is why they even catered to the consoles so much that it is almost crippling the PC version for a Wolfenstein game. The name is PC through-and-through - console gamers aren't going to give a shit about some game called Wolfenstein when they have Gears of War, Halo, Killzone and Call of Duty.

I haven't played the game, but from the videos I've seen and the feedback already out it seems they have nerfed the PC version. They've just sunk any chance of this game doing well in sales.

I guess they can always blame piracy.
