So I just stumbled across a movie trailer being presented in WMV:HD (24fps, 1080p, 5.1 surround, 8000kb/s, 114MB).

HOLY CRAP DOES IT LOOK & SOUND GOOD!! :eek:

Being even more curious now, I did a quick google search and found Microsoft's Media Player 9 HD showcase with all the goodies and some more trailers.

It looks like I need to upgrade my hardware soon though, as my comp was struggling on several spots - I haven't had choppy video since my 486! LOL! :rolleyes:
 
But drm sucks. Even if you can play the non-drm wmvs smoothly, you may not be able to play the drm ones w/o dropping frames. If you upgrade to play WMVHD get the fastest processor you can afford. I've read up to 30% overhead with drm.

Not fond of the wma9 5.1 either. You HAVE to use winxp to get it in 5.1 else it's downmixed to stereo. Only 1 sound solution will pass it digitally to a reciever, an nForce2 with mcp-t to encode to DD on the fly. Otherwise you're using the analogs.

But it does look good.
 
It's pretty, just sickening to see it chop on my system. I mean, this isn't exactly low end, upper mid really- wonder what it will take to make 1080P playback a norm for the average user...
 
I downloaded them all a week or so back for and they all run with out any problems at all full screen. But is HD the same quality as DVD are is it suppose to look better?
 
WMV:HD is 720p or 1080p
DVD is 480i or 480p

Viewing on a small monitor doesn't show off the quality. You have to see it on a big screen to really see it shine.
 
Find a local electronics store that has a 1080P plasma display, and badger them till they play something on it that's worthwhile (if they aren't already). Bring something to catch the drool.
 
Yeah, when you see plasma or LCD projection screens in electronics stores, most of the time that's not even as good as they can look; they either run the demo videos off of a DVD source or off of a HD antenna which is then spliced quite a few times to send the signal to all the HD TVs that they might be pimping.

These videos would look absolutely amazing. I know the T2:Extreme DVD had a version of the movie in WMV:HD on there, that's the only movie I know of which has done that though.
