We love game developers like this. All you other game devs out there take note, if you want loyal customers, this is the way to do it.

"All DLC for the PC version is and will remain FREE," development director Adam Badowski told Rock Paper Shotgun. "That's not likely to be the story for the Xbox version, because of certain Microsoft policies that need to be followed. But on PC, once you buy our game, you don't need to worry about any additional costs – we will provide all updates, including those featuring new content, for free."

I thoroughly enjoyed TW2 and TW3 will be a day 1 purchase for me because I want to support good developers.

I've been considering what my next RPG title to pick up should be...

Guess I've just found it :)

Free DLC and no DRM. These people rock! TW2 was a day-1 purchase from GOG for me. As gamers, we need to support developers like this. Don't wait to buy this when Steam has it for 9.99.

Buy it now and help fund TW3 development.

My $1.02

It's free because it's not sections of the game that were removed just so they could charge the customer again, like what EA and Activision do.

Great to hear that they are doing this.

This is why I haven't bought any Bioware games since Dragon Age, I got lured into buying the DLC, and the expansion "Awakening"...only to find out I could have bought all of the DLC, and expansion in the ultimate edition, and saved over $50.

If it was included with the game or free, I'd be more willing to buy the game, unfortunately I now hold onto my money to see if they make a tosspot move, of releasing an Uber, leet, laugh all the way to the bank on the poor saps that shelled out on the DLC, edition.

Seams like someone else is taking jabs at Microsoft and XBL other than Valve when it comes to free content on their service.

People who say "nothing a publisher does will please PC gamers" need to see this.

CDprojekt makes a good bit of coin while making their customers happy.

Can't wait TW3. It'll be a day-1 buy (as we TW2) for me. Gotta support the developers who give back. They are a dying breed.

Already said, but can't be said enough, it's good to support guys like these in the industry.

Microsoft's percentage of free on XBL = 0, that's the problem... It screws customers pretty badly IMHO.

EA is another story. They are DLC whores. If you've owned any of the recent Tiger Woods titles you know what I mean.

I can easily say that both TW1 and TW2 will be my next gaming purchase. It's nice to see developers not vilifying the customer for purchasing their game, which never made sense to me in the first place.

Very nice indeed! Also The witcher 2 Deluxe Digital Edition is on sale at steam for $29.99. I'm very tempted to buy but the bills have me on a tight budget this month. This just makes me want to support them more and get the game now at $30 instead of waiting until xmas time and getting it for $15 or less on steam. :)

I demo'd TW2 but quit in frustration after about half an hour, absolutely hated the combat mechanics. But free PC DLC and patches are something I support strongly enough I went ahead and bought a copy anyways.

Ubisoft can take their always-on DRM and shove it...although I can't go so far as to say I'd never buy an ubisoft game, I did grab 4 or 5 when they had that $1 digital download sale last year.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. TW2 is a fantastic game and in my opinion, easily the best game released this year.

While I didn't buy TW2 day 1 I did buy it at full price and am very pleased with the game. Eagerly looking forward too the new stuff coming in 2.0 for my second play through.

Exactly! Tired of developers with their half ass incomplete games then to murder us with DLC to make the game how it should be. I'm not too interested in RPG, I'm old school with the Phantasy Star games but I'll buy this game to support developers like this.

They supported the first witcher with enhancements for a long time after release. I ended buying 2 more copies as gifts even after they dropped the original DRM.

Witcher 2 was a day 1 purchase for me, from GOG. I haven't bought any additional copies yet, but thats a money issue, nothing against this fine game.

Thing is, I don't mind paying for extra content if it's stuff they've done extra work on, just as long as it's not (as others have mentioned) this EA style 'pull stuff that would have been in the game' or 'charge you for a 150k key that unlocks stuff that was already there' bullshit.

But this is new stuff AND its free, really can't complain about that :D

Still working my way through TW1, should finish it and investigate the sequels.

Saw this and bought it. I Won't play it for a few months, but I did my part.

So they're going back to what every PC studio used to do before the "DLC" buzzword came about: release game updates and patches for free.

Not a new concept, just one that's been abandoned in favor of trying to wring every last cent out of customers.

Yeah, the game's beginning is ROUGH. It's actually probably the hardest part of the game. Poor tutorial and unintuitive system make for a very frustrating experience. Once I got over that hump and started to get some skills in my skilltree, the game was far more enjoyable (the combat system was definitely built from the top down, so that when you start off, your skillset and stats are wholly inadequate for even the basic enemies, for instance two notches of a stamina bar is entirely inadequate to combat pretty much anything).

Hopefully they'll fix this problem with the third, because I hear this a lot from people and it's a shame that so many are turned away by the introduction.

Nice. Another dev to add to the "it's ACTUAL DLC, not "unlockable content".

I didn't think so, even on hard before the first patch. It was enjoyably difficult, with no encounters posing frustration.

If you played at the beginning against the dragon, then yeah I died a lot until I got a good feel for the controls. But they have since made the beginning more easy to get into.

If you did the prologue in "order", I had gotten used to the controls enough to only die a couple times in the dragon part. Figuring out WTF needed to be done was stressful for a few minutes, though.

In case you guys didn't catch what I posted last page

The Witcher 2 Digital Deluxe Edition is on sale right now at steam for $29.99

sorry that'll be my last public service announcement on this

One of the reasons why I didn't buy it yet. Didn't want to buy a version now and be forced to buy DLC to enjoy the game further.
Now that's it's free, I will definitely consider buying it during the Steam sale in December. Too many games to play right now.

Did you not read the official statements CD Projekt made BEFORE Witcher 2 launched? It was even on their website forever

they stated

DLC 4 Free

Other than a full expansion (likely no exp, just TW3), all DLC will be free from now until whenever.

Version 2.0 patch is being released on the 29th, and addresses the tutorial/beginning section of the game among many other upgrades.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first Witcher game, and bought the new one on the weekend to start playing on the 29th. Gotta support CDProject!

CD Projekt RED know how to get the job done. I thoroughly enjoyed TW1 and TW2 and would definitely buy TW3 whenever it comes out. The developers know how to treat the customers well which involves a common sense approach to DRM and DLC etc. Hooray for CD Projekt RED!

Well, they just sold me on The Witcher 2, as soon as I get a PC that'll handle it.
