ok in mid may ill be getting a eVGA 7900gt and with its rather handy aftermarket coolers warrenty ill be swaping it out fora better one but im not sure what on. heres the 2 im looking at:

Zalman VF700

or
Artic Cooling X1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835186001

ive used both brands before(useing a zalman on my X2 atm and an AC on my 9800pro atm) im just not sure what would be beter

also with the heatsink being on 'top' of the card(my case is a v1000) will it be ok, or should i invest in a card keeper?

If you don't mind spending the extra $$ I would get the VF900 over the VF700. Depending on your case config, the AC might dump the heat in a bad spot where as the VF series "spread" the heat around.

its also $20 more :p, dont want ot break the bank on athe cooler, after i pay off the card, mobo and extra ram ill be switching to water cooling

yea iv only had a couple of experiances with artic cool, but as far as i can tell, theyre sweet. few after market VGA air coolers can claim that theyre cooler is on the fastest card in the world, three times.

Why are you getting a new heatsink for it?

7900GT doesn't get hot enough to necessitate aftermarket cooling, unless you want to volt mod ;)

In fact it runs so cool and is so voltage starved, even when i put watercooling on, it *barely* overclocked further. Time to bust out some Vmods ;)

well, to be hinest with ya, cause i can, this is the first system ive built from scrach with 99.9% new parts(only reused ones is a 120mm fan in my 5.25 bays and my porn.... err extra 100GB HD from my old comp)

this will be the last computer i build for a while and i want to do as much as possable with it, my last case ran hot this v100b runs somewhat cooler but i dont want ot risk overheating, spending 40 extra dollers to protect a 300+ investment seems smart to me :p
