Wireless signal boost on laptop

I've got a situation where I need to boost the wireless signal on my laptop as I don't have the capability to touch the router hardware.

We're running wireless G and I'm looking for any way to boost the signal on the wi-fi card on the laptop. Is there a USB antenna or some other type of device to hook up to the laptop itself to get better wireless connectivity?

Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.

you need one of two things-

if your laptop has an external antenna port, which only a small number do, then you can buy an external antenna for some better signal gain.

or you need to get a whole new wireless card, either USB or PCMCIA or whatever your laptop uses, that has an external antenna. like this guy, although its out of stock here.
