Wireless Router as simple Access Point?

Sorry for my total network nubishness, but I've got a small home network that's all wired, and I got a crappy wireless router (for free lol) from a friend that I was hoping to implement behind my current router/firewall as an access point for my Wii, my G1, and my laptop if I take it to another room without wired access.

Any idea how to go about this? I set up the wireless router like a switch in my network, and nothing hooked up to it wired could see anything; not even the local network.
 
  1. Connect a PC to it without it being on your local network to make these changes first.
  2. Change it's local LAN ip address. Setup default to 192.168.1.1 likely will conflict with your current router. So change this one to 192.168.1.2, make sure it's not in DHCP range.
  3. In the menu's change it from being a gateway, to being a router.
  4. Disable it's DHCP server.
  5. Enable and configure it's WIFI settings, SSID, Security, etc.
That should just about do it.
 
Pretty much just reset it, turn off the DHCP server, configure wifi settings, plug it into your network via one of the LAN ports, and you are good to go.
 
Yeah make sure to plug into one of the LAN ports and NOT the WAN port.
