I am considering getting a wify capable printer so that I can use it for my desktop and laptop and keep it 20 feet away in a closet.

would I have to go through my router to do this or can I individually connect my laptop and desktop with the printer?

Do I have to enable my file and printer sharing to do this?
I do not network my 2 computers and thus have file and printer sharing disabled.

thanks for any suggestions

I have a different hp wireless printer and it works just like any other printer but the setup at first is a little weird. you hook it up via ethernet first when installing the drivers and then get the wireless working. Once that's done you log into the printer like a router and set it to wireless. It sounds kind of confusing but just follow the instructions and its easy.

that does not sound to confusing. So you do not have to put it on a network router then right?

Did you have to enable file and printer sharing on your PC's ?

thanks for the reply!

I don't have a wireless printer, but I do have two USB printers attached to a wireless print server. (Epson R200 and HP 1012)

You shouldn't need to turn on print and file sharing. When you run the add new printer wizard you may have to add it as a local printer and then create a new port pointing to the IP address of printer/print server.
